    3. Xavier, I like what you wrote, blood sings to its own no matter the color. It doesn't matter what others think, there is a bond with blood kin that can't be denied. Have you ever had a gut feeling that you were on the right track with a line you were researching despite having no evidence? It was probably your ancestors telling you that your search was in the right direction. So keep searching. Ali United we stand, divided we fall. God Bless America!! Someone misinformed you or you misunderstood my writing. I said I happened to be black and Vardry McBee is my ggg grandfather. He and one of his female slaves produced my gg grandmother (and I was searching for her name). This was the custom among "masters" and their female property and Vardry was no exception. They did what they wanted and when they wanted. Oftentimes their wives knew and many times their wives did not know. Remember Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings? You can bet Thomas Jefferson was not the only "master" who had sexual relations with his female property and produce many children. Thomas Jefferson's wife was the half sister to Sally Hemings and other siblings. Jefferson's wife was given Sally, her sister, as a gift when she married Thomas Jefferson. We, as far as family is concerned, know only what our parents choose to tell us; their parents before them, and their parents before them, etc. My family chose to tell us everything. This knowledge does not make me proud nor does it make me ashamed. Sex between "masters" and female property was common whether it was consentual or rape (and many, many babies were born). I imagine this can be hard to take. I mean no one any difficulties in their understanding of history and what they were taught. I only stand for the truth and I'm just looking for names of my black relatives (I already know of Vardry McBee). What I am saying is just a part of history as anything else is in the past, and, Vardry is just as much my relative as he is yours or anyone elses. I'm not angry. This is in the past and if it had not been for Vardry I would not be born and you and many, many others would not be either. Would it hurt you so much to discover that you and I are cousins by way of Vardry McBee? If you have pertinent (true) information you think I may not be aware please let me know. I've been looking for names of my black relatives of the 1800's. Write back if you care to. We can probably learn a great deal from each other and I mean you no disrespect. 3. You're right Xavier, that makes me think there was a certain level of intimacy between them. I've never even hugged and kissed my own mother in a store. They apparently knew each other quite well. Ali, still hoping to find the link between Vardry McBee and Robert Magby. United we stand, divided we fall. God Bless America!! 3. Well, had to go back and review my McBee History "Out of the wilderness" book and realized that Vardry is the Uncle of my gg grandfather,James McBee of the McBee Chapel community. I would suggest Xaviar write me what he knows and I'll write an article for the Braymer Bee newspaper and see if any of the McBee's who read it have any of the old pictures or family histories that would mention the slave's or property settlements of Vardry. As many of you know William McBee and his wife Susanna had 4 sons and 3 daughters,Samual,Vardry,James,Mathis,Elizabeth,Joannah and Mary. James stayed in S. Carolina but his son Thomas married Rachel RIley and moved to Ohio. The boys and their mother moved to Missouri in 1835 and landed in Hardin Missouri and later moved to Millville,Missouri. JW moved to the homeplace that I show on my web site. I am the great grandson of Carrie McBee Kelly. 3. In the course of my research, especially of my McBees, I've found joys and profound sorrows. The deeds done by our ancestors were not always admirable, or even understandable. It's been useful for me to remember that it is all just HISTORY, even if personal history that still affects the living. And some acts that could have been seen as shameful in the past, now seem just human. We cannot change the actions taken by our ancestors, but we can choose to be gracious under pressure. When we uncover facts which don't flatter the ancestral portrait, we can choose to thoughtfully publish them anyway, in the larger interest of TRUTH. This takes courage. 3. I don't doubt that if GGGGGGrandpa Vardry McBee had slaves that, like Jefferson and even George Washington's brother,he could have had some children with the slaves. Also,I don't doubt that some relationships could have been maintained----for instance on my mother's side of the family the slaves actually stayed around and are buried in our family graveyard 30-40 years after slavery ended--they were part of the family and my grandmother told me stories that her mother told her about one of the freed slaves who used to stick around and cook and actually even attended family events until her death. It is a great story----I hope we can learn more...also I understand we have some Indian marriages that occurred in some of our families. I am a 6th generation of Vardry McBee (and who happen to be black). The Vardry to whom I'm referring was born 1775 and died 1864 (wife was Jane). Better known as "the father of Greenville," South Carolina. My ggg grandmother was his slave and had children by him. I know it is next to impossible to find out her name and one daughter's name who was the mother of my greatgrandmother. My great grandmother's name was Annie Elizabeth Goins. While we were growing up my grandmother told us circa the 30's, 40's & 50's the black and white McBees intentionally "met at JC Pennys", Greenville, South Carolina. "You never did see such hugging and kissing". We are less and less aware of each other now. It is true that many slaves/ex-slaves took on their "masters' " names; however, in this case the last name was because of birth/blood. Vardry was an intelligent man so I'm sure he kept some type of record of his human property? Checks or underlines near/by certain ones he favored (male and female)? Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Xavier

    2. Hi, gals, as a long believer in Quintrell, I will agree with anything he supposes, because he wants proof beyond belief for everything. He was the first one to tell me never to AS-Sume Anything, ;you've got to trust him when he says maybe, that's what you can believe. He doesn't promise anything without a document.Way back when there was no proof, we McBee's were on the move. We didn't take our records with us, the next move was most important, not the last one. Happy Thanksgiving. Lorrainae McBee Wheeler

Among other probable attendees are Hobbamock, Quadequina (Massasoit’s brother), and Tokamahamon (mentioned in Mourt’s Relation in June 1621, as a "special friend"). We do not know whether Samoset was still in the Plymouth area or had already returned to Maine. Taken from http://www.plimoth.org/Library/Thanksgiving/thnksatt.htm Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Re: [McBEE] Nancy Hale Mcbee
    2. My apologies to the McBee family web, I didn't have a will, I had The notes from Denzel Mauldin and 2 or 3 DAR members' family lines which named the sons from the deeds.. My notes date back just 10 years and I have yet to establish a connection from Nancy to her presumed father. If there is a deed naming her, or a tax record, I do not have it. The closest I came was a court record where she was arrested for fighting with a neighbor, and Israel her husband had to bail her out. But nothing to indicate her father. There is also evidence that Israel McBee lived next door to Shadrack Hale. I think that was a tax record in Wash. Co.My main problem is that I am also ten years older and can't remember and have insufficient notes . Not good to be an aging genealogist. It is so aggravating to have the Hale family back to 1688, and can't connect. Darn. Anyway, it's been interesting to be in this family. It is still a surprise to find a McBee descendant from my grandfather's first marriage. This one surfaced this year. What fun. He didn't even have a picture of our common grandfather, I was pleased to send a copy via my son's scanner. Do we ever finish? Lorraine McBee Wheeler Tigard, OR

    1. Re: [McBEE] Mail was down earlier today
    2. Does anyone have any proof that Israel McBee and Nancy Hale were wed, Nancy presumably was daughter of Shadrack Hale==but his will names only his sons. Darn. What I need is some sort of bible record, but I suppose it's gone by now. One stone wall I can't climb. Lorraine McBee Wheeler, Tigard, OR

    3. Lorainne--good to see your name on this forum! You sent me a copy of your Beeler-Mcbee paper about 10 years ago. I have been slogging away with family history since. Denzel Mauldin sent me pages from his Hale history several years ago that applied to my Mcbee line. one of his notes says" shadrack Hale left no will and no family record has been found naming his children. the personal property left at shadrack's death was administered by John Henderson in claiborne co. Tn. In 1809, he sold property to his eldest son, Shadrack Hale Jr. this transaction was witnessed by Talbot Hale. Washington Co TN Tax records indicate that "Little Meshack Hale is a son of shadrack Hale, as does this county's deeds support that Nancy (Hale) Mcbee is his daughter. I know I have seen other circumstantial evidence, but not sure I have a good "proof" where did you find a Will for Shadrack Hale? I have other info about Israel and Nancy and decendants, But I am sure most of it you found years ago. cya LuAnn Kline kluann@juno.com
