    3. Thanks Valorie! The William MCVOY on the bottom is mine. His son, Martin MCVOY (on census)was my greatgrandfather. He was an apprentice in Baltimore,MD when the Civil War broke out.His brother's name was William MURRELL MCVOY and his father was William MCVOY, Jr., b.1812 Pensacola,FL whose father was GUILLERMO MACABOY,Sr.(aka Wm. MCAVOY,Sr.), b.1776 in Savannah, GA. My great grandpa, Martin MCVOY also named one of his sons William MURRELL MCVOY, but he died in youth before 1900. I really appreciate the census listing. Thanks again. 3. Hi Valorie Have you posted your query on the ROBESON Genforum page.........Yes......I know Mary Ellen's name is spelled ROBISON but we have found that the surname sometimes was misspelled and some researchers think it is the same family. Here is the url: http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/latest.cgi?robeson We have Andrew ROBESON [1653] of Scotland, New Jersey & Pennsylvania as one of our ancestors....that is in addition to MAGBY, MCBEE, FISH, FOUTZ, WILLIAMS, etc. There is quite a bit of history & genealogy in a book published by Kate Hamilton Osborne & started by Susan ROBESON STROUD. It was published in 1916 and is of course out of print but reprints are available......$100 + as I recall.......it is a work of over 700 pages with several plates in it......perhaps your Mary Ellen might be in it. It is titled An Historical And Genealogical Account of Andrew Robeson of Scotland, New Jersey & Pennsylvania & of his Descendants from 1653 to 1916. Our ROBESON ancestors lived in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa which is just across the border from Missouri.......'tis possible there is a connection. I'll take a look at our database and if I find anything will let you know. Good luck in your search..... 1. [McBEE] 1870 Census conundrum
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Well, I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row -- I'm headed to Salt Lake City for a whole WEEK on the 21st of this month! So naturally, I've been feverishly trying to whip my personal research (sadly neglected) into some sort of shape, in order to make best use of my time at the Family History Library. I think I now have enough films, fiches and book titles printed out to keep me busy for a month! I've posted this query a couple of places tonight: Mary Ellen ROBISON b. c1830 m. c1850 William Bunch McBEE b. c1825 TN, son Samuel b. 1852 MO I'm trying to locate Mary Ellen ROBISON who married William Bunch McBEE around 1850. She was probably born around 1830, and family stories say she was of Irish birth ?? If so, it's odd that she was in Harrison Co. MO! She and William had a son, Samuel Bunch (or Samuel E.) McBEE born in 1852 in Missouri, according to the 1900 Census. One story has both William and Mary Ellen dying young, and Samuel being raised by Jim WOODWARD in Harrison Co. MO. The other story has him remarrying after Mary Ellen's death, and the 1880 Census for Clay twp, Harrison Co. MO shows Samuel aged 29 married to his wife Nancy, and down the road, William, aged 55, born in TN, and his wife Mannilia, age 47, also born in TN. The census leads me to believe that Mary Ellen Robison was also born in Tennessee, and was in Missouri by 1852, and died by 1880. Hopefully, some Robison researchers will know if this person ever existed! I decided to look at the 1870 Census images online, and see what I could see. First I looked in Harrison Co. MO, where supposedly (according to the AIS Index) no McBees resided. They just didn't look hard enough! 1870 MO Census, Harrison Co. 3. Jeanne, I saw this query today--I have silas mcbee, married to sarah dyer in my family tree I show him born in abt 1790 in Green co. TN, as were all his siblings the family immigrated there in abt 1810, and that part of Greene eventually became Union Co.TN His brother Robert Married Elizabeth Dyer and his brother William Pryor/Prior married Nancy dyer. Elizabeth and Nancy were sisters, I think Sarah was a cousin. I am not sure which line she fits into without digging into some old records. Most of my Mcbee information came from Earl Quintrell--major Mcbee researcher a few years ago. I show Jan 20, 1821 as the wedding date for silas and sarah, in Grainger Co. TN. I will look in my census records and see what I have for family for them. Let me know what you get from others. As I get images of the census, I'll link the images to the index entries. Please contact me if you already have scanned census pages or actual census extracts that you would like me to link to, or upload. Also, some of the names are obviously incorrect. If you have corrections to the index, please send along your evidence, and I'll make the corrections. If you have a page about one of these people, I can link to that, too. As time goes on, I hope to have a pages or pages for each of the census years. Thanks to some of our faithful researchers, some of that data is already available, and I'll be posting it soon. 3. I'm sure you have all heard that Soundex is only available for a few Southern states in the 1930 US Census. So, to narrow down the search, we will need to find our city ancestors and other relatives in old city directories and such. Once the street address is found, step 2 is locating the "E.D." - Enumeration District. In today's Ancestry Daily News, I found mention of an interesting site, in an article my Megan Smolenyak. The entire article is available here: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/prodredir.asp?sourceid=831&key=A529701 ONLINE FINDING AID Those of us with big city roots should all be grateful to Stephen P. Morse, Joel D. Weintraub, and David R. Kehs for the tool they've just launched at: http://home.pacbell.net/spmorse/census/ Building on data transcribed by Weintraub, this site is called "Obtaining EDs for the 1930 Census in One Step (Large Cities)" and that's exactly what it helps you do for a number of major cities that weren't indexed in the M1931 microfilm series mentioned above. So now if your family resided in Jersey City or one of about one hundred other cities, your research just became a lot easier. Researchers with Ellis Island ancestors are already familiar with Morse's one-step tool to help search the Ellis Island database (http://home.pacbell.net/spmorse/ellis/ellis.html), and luckily for us, he's at it again. As with his other tools, I strongly recommend that you read his Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), which will help you understand how to get the most from this site as well as what its limitations are. You'll also get a quick education in the 1930 census. Essentially, the site helps you determine the ED or EDs in which a given street was recorded. <snip> There is more good information about the release of the 1930 Census, and finding aids that will be available, at NARA: http://merrimack.nara.gov/genealogy/1930cen.html

    3. I thought the entire list should see this. I don't know why certain men were listed more than once, but it was pretty obvious in a few cases that it WAS the same man, with slightly different information. I've decided that I'm going to either rent films I need from the General Index to Pension Files (T288), or visit the archives and get the rest of the information on these fellows, and put them up on a webpage. I can list people as contacts, like we did for the marriages and deaths. We'll get it all together one of these days! Silas Benton was the son of Elder Samuel MCBEE. He was born 15 Feb 1842 Marion Co., TN, died about 1908 in Roff, OK, buried in Scullin Cemetery, Murray Co., OK. Isham was born about 1829 in TN; his father was an attorney in Dade Co., GA who died there about 1850 of measles. I know that most of Josiah's children stayed in TN, rather than in GA.
