You can go to the Huddleston list archives and see if the discussion has continued, or not. I get the posts via PML because they have the McBEE surname mentioned, so I wouldn't have gotten any posts without that part of the line mentioned. For this purpose, the Threaded Archive might be easier to use -- just pick the month where the debate was taking place, and follow up on it. http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ You could also search for Israel McBee in the keyword searches archives of the Huddleston list, and see what pops up: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl The various list archives have a WEALTH of information contained in them, which is one of the reasons I bother to post the PML snippets -- they can lead interested list members to the right list archives for further searching. This was most interesting. I didn't know that about Vardry or the River. Whatever happened with the Huddleston discussion? My DAR record shows Rachel to be daughter of Israel, but Israel was the patriot and was born in 1766. Not the date shown in the Huddleston info. He was 99-l/2 when he died at the beginning of the War. And so it goes. Lorraine

HISTORY OF THE REEDY RIVER According to former Greenville historian Henry Bacon McKoy, "The City of Greenville owes its very existence to the Reedy River" (McKoy, 1969). For many, the history of the Reedy River and the history of Greenville are synonymous, as the Reedy River helped spawn the growth and development of this area. Throughout the years, the river and its surroundings have been utilized for a variety of different uses, which comprise its vibrant past that extends well beyond the banks of the falls in downtown Greenville. <snip> The Reedy River's varied course resembles much of the diverse history surrounding this body of water. The Cherokee Indians were the first known occupants of the Greenville area and the lands adjacent to the Reedy River. In 1776, pioneer Richard Pearis established a grist mill and trading post at the river's falls. In 1815, Lincolnton, North Carolina resident Vardry McBee discovered the Reedy River and its falls. McBee, who can be attributed to much of Greenville's early growth, followed Pearis' entrepreneurial spirit by building a brick and granite mill on the lower falls. From early on, the Reedy River was recognized as an excellent source of power. <snip>
