Mark, I doubt that William McBee, born 1786, was killed in the Civil War. He would have been approximately 74/75 at the start of the Civil War. He appears in the 1850 Walker Conty, Georgia Census with his wife Anna and son Matthew. I am sending you and the McBee web site my information on William. I, too, descend from William McBee and Anna Brown. Danny A. McBee. P. 2 March 19, 1821, William McBee (S.C.) to Thomas Brown (Spartanburgh); for $100 sold 125 acres on Bullock's fork; grant to Malichi Jones; includes 25 acres sold by Warner Sherbut (or Shurbutt) to John Prewett. See two deeds from Warner Sherbute to John Prewett. Witness James Brown and Jesse Hutchins. Signed William McBee. April 19, 1826. Jacob Stotts to George Weaver; power of attorney to sell 150 acres; grant to Henry Walker; border: Thos Wells; and power of attorney to collect judgment in sheriff's hands against estate of John Tolleson deceased. Witness Absalom McBee and William McBee. Signed Jacob Stott's mark. Wit. oath September 4, 1826 Absalom McBee to Jas Ed Henry. Rec. September 4, 1826. Millie Adelaide Briant (Bryant) McBee's father's name was William Tolleson Briant. There could be a connection here. This should be looked into further by going to Spartanburg, South Carolina and looking through the records closer. (Danny A. McBee). There is a great possibility that William could have been the father of Thomas B. McBee. Thomas B. McBee named his first son, born 1843, William. William died in the Battle of Chickamauga in Georgia in 1863 at the young age of 20. He was a corporal. There are two people named William McAbee listed in the Spartanburg County, Spartanburg, South Carolina 1820 census with male children under the age of 10 which fits the time of Thomas McBee's birth (1814/1818). Both of these William McAbees are listed on page 240 of that Census. (Danny Albert McBee, 4131 Grissom Street, Gastonia, North Carolina, 28056 (704) 865-6715 or (803) 238-9145). There is a possibility that this William McBee might be the son of Isham McBee. [Danny A. McBee]. The 3rd U. S. Census, 1810, Spartanburg District, South Carolina, lists William Macbee as head of household with his wife and family. [Danny A. McBee, June 11, 1994]. The 4th U. S. Census, 1820, Spartanburg Dist., S. C., page 246, house no. 634, list William McAbee & T. Reid, Jr. as head of household (T. Reid, Jr. believed to have been a son-in-law). MALE Under 5 5/10 10/15 15/20 20/30 30/40 40/50 50/60 0 1 2 1 1 0 1 0 FEMALE Under 5 5/10 10/15 15/20 20/30 30/40 40/50 50/60 0 0 0 2 1 0 1 0 Comment: The members of the family have not been identified, but this William (born c. 1785) is believed to be the son of Matthew McBee (born before 1755). This William was living fairly close to other known members of Matthew's family. Also, the age given is correct to match with the information given in the 7th U. S. Walker Co., Georgia Census listed above. Also, the census information list William and T. Reid, Jr. as being joint heads of this family. It is speculated that T. Reid, Jr. is a son-in-law of William living in his house. Living in the houses directly on either side of these two are several Reid's: William Reid, Jr., Thomas Reid, A. & F. Reid, Jr., and James Reid. It is believed that the Thomas Reid is the father of Thomas Reid, Jr. Also the Reid connection ties in with the name Elijah T. Reid listed in the 1850 Walker Co., Georgia Census living in the household of William McBee. (Danny A. McBee). I, Danny A. McBee, now believe that the son that is listed as 20/30 years old is Thomas B. McBee. This Thomas B. McBee could stand for Thomas Brown to whom William sold his land too. Thomas Brown could have been married to a McBee. This is pure speculation on my, Danny A. McBee, part. (Danny A. McBee, September 12, 1998). The Seventh U. S. 1850 Walker Co., Ga., Taylor Ridge Valley Census, page no. 411, list dwelling number 948 and family 948 as: William McBee, 65, male, white, farmer, birth South Carolina, wife Anna McBee, 64, born S. C., Elijah T. Reid, 18, (believed to be a grandchild), farmer, born in S. C., Matthew McBee, 35, farmer, born in S. C., Mary McBee, 25, (daughter-in-law), born in Georgia, granddaughter Cynthia P. McBee, 5, born in Texas, and grandson James T. McBee, 1, born in Tennessee (shows a migratory pattern of the McBee family). (Danny A. McBee). Possibility that William was selling his land to move to Georgia? There is a William McAbee who served in the War of 1812. He served in Captain Loveless Gosque's Co. of Infantry, 5th (Keith's) Regiment of South Carolina Militia. He was also on the Company muster roll at Fort Winyaw. His terms of service given as 3 months and 22 days. Starts September 1, 1812 and is completed on December 22, 1812. Also, Thomas Brown served in this same regiment. [Danny A. McBee, January 11, 2000]. There is a a William McBee, SC-11144, who served in Captain W. O'Bannon's Company in the Virginia Militia as a private. [Danny A. McBee, February 10, 2001]. William McBee may have had a son named Edward McBee. There is a Edward McAbee in the 1850-1860-1870 Whitfield County, Georgia Census. This is the same area that Anna McBee lived after the death of her husband William McBee. She may have moved there after the death of her husband William McBee. [Danny A. McBee, June 11, 1997].
Thanks for the correction Danny, I think I just made a mistake looking at my files. I believe we both have a lot of the same things. i would like to send you what I have and see if our stuff matches. this is from a posting in 1999, I need to re-establish contact with the researchers mentioned here. Please write me at ronmcctx@austin.rr.com if you recognize any names here. Bingo ! Greetings from Tulsa, OK I am Mark Bardsley, a gggs of John mcBee, born in Tenn about 1817. My daughter, Cindy Kuerston, of Tulsa have been working on McBee problems (Namely John and family) for some time) I offer you first of all the following letter sent by another McBee decendent in 1995. We have lost contact with him as he has moved from Mineral Wells. ( we do have other data we can send but I think this will be of interest to Ron McCandless. ) Here is the letter: 3302 Apache Drive Mineral Wells, Texas 76067 June 19, 1995 Ms. Cindy Kuerston 4610 So. Urbana Ave. Tulsa, OK 74135 Concerning the F. M. McBee you are inquiring about at the end of your booklet, I think that I at least know who he is. On the 1860 Census of Denton County, Texas there appears a William McBee, 26 yoa from Tennessee with his wife Louisa, also 26 yoa, and 10 year old son Francis M. McBee. I don’t think this is our William McBee because 10 years older and our William appears with the family in Marion County, Tenn for that year. The William McBee from Denton County, Texas moved to Atascosa County where he appears on the 1870 Census. They are living in dwelling #156 while son F.M. is living with his wife and daughter in dwelling #155. It is interesting to note that Rebecca (McBee) and John McKeller are living in dwelling # 117 of the same County. On the same census there appears a Jessee McBee, age 52, in dwelling #124 and a W. (A. of G.) McBee, 18 yoa in dwelling # 125. I suspect that the Jessee McBee is a brother of our John McBee and that William is John’s son. On the 1880 Census of Frio County this William names his youngest son Marcis. Maybe a coincidence or not. Sincerely Yours, James E. Blaylock Ron - If you can contact me I will send other stuff to you by mail etc. I do think we can link up here - we are also in direct and regular contact with the McKeller cousins. Do you have any further data on Jessee McBee ? Mark Bardsley star@webzone.net)
