Dear Ron, You might check the name Magby. I have been looking for Magbys in AR and OK and keep running across a bunch in NM. I am on my way out the door but when I get back I will look them up and send you some information from a WFT CD. This is my husband's family and I do not know too much about them. Do not even know how or if they connect with NM. Just joined the list. Haven't even posted yet. Later, Cathey Jendeski [email protected]
This is a paragraph from a Life History tale from the WPS Project. The speaker is May Lee Queen, White Oaks, New Mexico, Aged 56 years. "Father had always wanted a cattle ranch, so they moved down to southwest Texas and bought a cattle ranch about twenty miles from Brackettsville, Texas. The family came by train from Virginia to Texas and had been there only a short time when I was born on June 1st, 1882. About two years later my mother had another baby girl, and she and I were the only children born in the United States. While we were living there Father met a man named McBee who had a ranch at White Oaks, New Mexico. He was always telling Father what a great country New Mexico was, so in 1886 my father sold out his place near Brackettsville and started for New Mexico. " Anyone know who this McBee might have been? Does anyone know anything about Francis Marion McBee? Ron McCandless
As some of you remember, I had Jessee McBee /MagBee in Jackson Co. AL then Johnson Co. AR then on to Atascosa Co. Texas. However, all the families there (5) went different directions, some to MO and others just seemed to disappear. One of the daughters had married Jesse Ward Dancer and he was accused of murdering a man in Frio Co. in 1876. It appears to be a land grab deal but the records were stolen and only bits and pieces can be pieced together. One day everyone in the small community along the Bishop Creek were law abiding citizens with no known problems with the law and the next day they are all accused of rustling cattle and the most vocal was accused of murdering a man whose body seems to have disappeared and the law did not even know his name other than Greeley. This is the reason I've searched out this Dancer connection. Dicie McBee's first husband was my GGGF and she was my GGGM. She had three kids by Alex McCandless, he died in 1869 and in 1870 she married J.W. Dancer. Family history says he was captured, escaped, captured again in Medina Co. and escaped again. County records show that the sheriff of Frio Co. issued warrants to other counties as late as 1882. It appears that Dancer lived in Wilson Co. for a while and the sheriff there either did not find him or refused to take part in the scam but in any case did not arrest him to return to Frio Co. Then he was McKinney Co. (Bracketville, TX) where F. M. McBee lived. I've never found his connection to the family yet either. From there it seems that Dancer made his way to New Mexico. In the 1900's a Dancer researcher started looking into the case and a man came by her father's house while she was gone and threatened that she "had better drop it." As a side note, Dancer had a son who settled in Caldwell Co. and became the Post Master of Sea Willow, TX and later became a deputy sheriff and jailer in Gonzales, Gonzales Co. He was killed in a shoot out early one morning on the streets. That too seemed suspicious but no investigation seemed to have been done. Too late to make a long story short but I'm looking for information on any McBee's in West Texas or New Mexico or if you run across the surname Dancer, I'd like to know. Ron McCandless

Well, live and learn. I had Texana Ennis as the wife of William's brother, John R. because of a blurb in the "Out of the Wilderness" obituary of John R. McBee who died at the Confederate Home at Higginsville, Lafayette Co., MO. The book stated that Louisa Texana Ennis on 15 December 1866. However, I posted queries to several MO counties last evening and now this morning I find this. This has been a second tier research project so I was not as concerned with my own files as I am about my main lines of research. Now however, I find that I am one of the folks contributing to the mass of errors caused by the Internet and some folks that believe everything they see online has to be a fact. Well, this goes to prove that the Internet, books and other researchers are NOT PRIME SOURCES. I will try to correct my files and put answers to my own queries out there as soon as possible after I confirm the truth from a county marriage book that I will go and see with my own dang eyeballs! They did not get married in Frio County that I can see though. Below the 1880 Census I have the marriages from the Frio Co records but I have to see those books for myself. Found when looking for MCBOY'S 14 REG'T of MS MILITIA. (DIEGO and GUILLERMO MCBOY/MCVOY) --War of 1812: (fwd to list in hopes it may help someone.) Hi. I just stumbled over CLEMENT(S) from MD on a site about CLEMENTS from MD who went to MOBILE CO AL and fought in my family's volunteer 14th REG'T "MCBOY'S" MISSISSIPPI MILITIA, War of 1812: http://members.home.com/ajboyd/clDesc01.htm *I think that is a zero next to the 1.htm, if not, try the letter 0. BENJAMIN or JOHN CLEMENTS b.ca. 1774 MD or VA, lived in MOBILE CO AL. Listing of CLEMENTS svd in MCBOY'S 14TH MS MILITIA, WAR OF 1812. He had a brother named JOSHUA CLEMENTS. On War of 1812 it lists: CLEMENTS, UNKNOWN 1S NAME, PRIVATE, served in "MCBOY'S" 14th MS MILITIA.(With my ancestors DIEGO and his brother WILLIAM/GUILLERMO) BENJAMIN married ANNA "UNKNOWN" around 1800, possibly MARYLAND. ANNA was born abt. 1778 in MARYLAND and died around 1850-1860 (Mobile?) 1850 census Mobile Co AL with son ANDERSON listed as 72 years old. possibly on 1820 or 1830 census of PUTNAM CO GA??? Lists other sons or possibly Anna's husband's brothers: CLEMENTS: Henry W., Joshua, Benjamin His children were ANDERSON and JOSHUA. Hope this helps someone. I know my MCVOY'S *spelled in 1812 as MCBOY who were the "MCBOY'S" from the reg't name, have "some unknown" connection to MD. My great grandfather came to CALVERT CO MD in the mid 1800's before the Civil War. His name was MARTIN MCVOY, but I have found many records spelling our surname as MCBOY. Does anyone on the list know the parents ( and siblings) of Elijah McAbee b: 9 April 1807 in Spartanburg Co.,SC and died 24 July 1884 in Franklin, Williamson Co.,TN? Elijah was married to Dorcus James b: March 1813 in Spartanburg and died after 1880 in TN. They were married in Spartanburg on 7 Jan 1830. I've been told that this line started in Prince George's Co.,MD, but I have not been able to make any connections. I have descendant info for 7 generations if anyone would like. Thanks, Linda
Great! Do you have any information on them like who William's father might be and where they orginated?
