Looking for a marriage between a MICHAEL STAUNTON & ? KANE [brother of MICHAEL KANE] in the parish of ISLANDEADY in perhaps DERRYCOUSE/DERRYCOOSH He died in 1848 [famine] so he might have been married sometime in the 30's 40's? There was a testimony about this case concerning a Ulick Walsh & Edmond Moran. Thanks, Walt
Interesting to see the first name Ulick ..... I came upon Canon Ulick Burke, also, in Claremorris .... Ulick is a name I had not heard of before ..... Can anyone tell me anything about it? Is it a Saint's name? Was it popular in 18th-19th century Ireland? Was it originally a surname? Maureen >>Looking for a marriage between a MICHAEL STAUNTON & ? ULICK, according to Ronan Coghlan et al. in Book of Irish Names, is a diminutive for Uiliam, Irish for William. It may be a form of Norwegian Hugleik. Uilleac and Uillioc are variants.
