I knew the name of the ship, the date it left Ireland, the date it arrived at Ellis Island, and the name of the passenger (my G. Grandfather) his approximate (+/- 1yr) it still took me about 6 hours to find him on Ellis Island's web site. It seems that someone deciphered a capital letter N as a letter h (It does look like a h on the original manifest), But I haven't heard of too many Mchally's (this is despite the fact that one of the columns very clearly states his final destination is his wife Mary McNally. When I contacted them with this error I was told the following.... " If you find, or have found what you believe to be a database error and wish to notify the Foundation, please contact us at [email protected] and please delineate on the subject line of your e-mail what type of error you encountered. Choose from the following subjects;" o Manifest error o Spelling error o Ship Image error o Other Database error "There is no date for correcting the database errors and you will not receive a response to an error e-mails." "The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc." The ship's manifest also said he was married (which he was) and the typed manifest listed him as single! Keep on looking!
