Mary at [email protected] writes: << Can somebody tell me what Castleconnor is, please? >> Well, Mary, Currently, the townland of Castleconor IS in Co. Mayo. It has a two mile long northern border with Co. Sligo. The confusion arises because the area from Castleconor south - including most, if not all, of the then Kilmoremoy parish, was transferred from Co. Sligo to Co. Mayo in 1898. The seanruad website and the townland listings were prepared 50 years before this, so your 1836 - 1869 records would be from the good-old Sligo days. As an aside, there is a "village" identified on the Discovery map 24 with the name Castleconor carefully placed on the Sligo side of the current border. But the actual townland itself is safely ensconced in Co. Mayo. This sort of cross-border naming occurs occasionally throughout Ireland.
