to all listowners for publication immed! my son, named further below,in my message to him and his return message, works for a major unnamed computer company and i sent this to him to check it out because i am, unfortunately, not really too computer savvy. i have seen this online in all the lists i belong to so- beware! watch yourselves and dont believe everything you read. Subj: Virus Alert Date: 12/19/01 8:03:22 AM Pacific Standard Time From: [email protected] (Alan and Sharon Henry) To: [email protected] (Alan and Sharon Henry) I received a message from a friend today about a virus that he had on his computer and suspected that he had sent on to me. THIS VIRUS IS NOT DETECTED BY NORTON OR McAFEE. IT LIES DORMANT FOR 14 DAYS AND THEN DESTROYS YOUR HARD DRIVE!!! PLEASE ACT PROMPTLY!!! When I followed his directions, I found that the virus was on my computer. I have since removed it but was afraid that my computer might have forwarded it to the people on my mailing list. Since I have your address in my list, I thought that I better let you know so that you could check your computer and get rid of it if need be. This is what you do. Go to your START MENU Select SEARCH/FIND Select FILES and FOLDERS Type sulfnbk.exe (this is the virus) in the FIND window (make sure that you are searching your C drive) Select FIND/SEARCH This virus is named sulfnbk.exe and has a black icon If you don't find the file, you are okay If you find the file....DO NOT OPEN IT Right click on the file, then select DELETE Send it to the RECYCLE BIN Go to your desk top and double click on the RECYCLE BIN Empty the RECYCLE BINI regret any inconvenience that this may have caused, especially at this busy time of year. Sincerely, Sharon Brady Henry this is my correspondance w/ son: Sent: Wednesday, December 19, 2001 3:55 PM To: Terrence Brown Subject: Fwd: Virus Alert-is this true? what do i do if it is? If they delete that file, they won't be able to use their cable modem ----- > Subject: Re: Virus Alert-is this true? what do i do if it is? > > wow- idiots. is this a scam? his reply to my question of idiots sending this around!(those who sent it originally are the idiots-not those trying to help by passing on, lest i offend anyone! yeah, they get spammed by someone who knows they have a Surfboard Cable Modem (I had one in Delray) and than tell them to search for the file that controls the modem. Pretty easy way to ceate a hassle I would say > >
This virus is a hoax. The .exe file is actually a program which names Windows files with long names. Check it out at Symantec.COM. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, December 19, 2001 4:23 PM Subject: [MAYO] re: virus info from my son as to scam going round! > to all listowners for publication immed! my son, named further below,in my > message to him and his return message, works for a major unnamed computer > company and i sent this to him to check it out because i am, unfortunately, > not really too computer savvy. i have seen this online in all the lists i > belong to so- beware! watch yourselves and dont believe everything you read. > > Subj: Virus Alert > Date: 12/19/01 8:03:22 AM Pacific Standard Time > > > From: [email protected] (Alan and Sharon Henry) > To: [email protected] (Alan and Sharon Henry) > > I received a message from a friend today about a virus that he had on his > computer and suspected that he had sent on to me.
