Hello Listers, I've only just joined the list as I've recently discovered that my maternal 3 x grt grandparents, and the whole of the RAFFERTY family, appear in the UK census for 1871. The youngest child was 11 at this time, suggesting that the family moved to England during the 1860s. I am looking for any information or pointers that would help me trace them and their families in County Mayo, and would be pleased to exchange the details I have from the 1881, '91 & '01 census, and so on. The 1871 census shows : The family is living in Halifax, Yorkshire Patrick Rafferty, Head, married, aged 55, labourer outdoors (3 x grt grandfather) Mary Rafferty, Wife, married, aged 50 Catherine Rafferty, Daughter, unmarried, aged 23 Patrick Rafferty, Son, unmarried, aged 19 (2 x grt grandfather) Thomas Rafferty, Son, unmarried, aged 15 John Rafferty, Son, aged 13 Mary Rafferty, Daughter, aged 11 All the family are given as born in COUNTY MAYO, Ireland, and, presumably, Patrick (snr) and Mary were married in County Mayo, too. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who recognises this family or has any information that might help. Many thanks Tony High Wycombe, England
