Terry and List, Could someone tell me if the three Catholic churches listed below are all in the Portland/Saint John area? I think they may have also been near Meenan [or as some of the oldtimers and locals say it, Meehan] Cove just outside the town of Quispamsis. Anyway, here's what I've got. I have only two SAVAGES for certain, Margaret & Sarah Jane. (1.) Margaret SAVAGE, b.circa 1817, who married James MEEHAN/MEHAN/MEAHAN, b.circa 1816. We believe they were both born in Co. Mayo, Ireland. In the 1871 census he was listed as a millman, and they were living in Lancaster Ward, Div. 1. Their children and baptismal dates: Mary-1 19 DEC 1843 St. Malachy Margaret 27 APR 1845 St.Malachy Mary-2 17 JUL 1847 St. Andrews James 1850 [my ggrandfather, married Catherine MURRAY on 12 OCT 1869] Charles 29 OCT 1854 St.Malachy William 08 FEB 1857 St.Malachy Catherine 24 MAR 1859 St.Malachy John 25 JUL 1863 St. George Margaret died 13 NOV 1887 as a widow in Marble cove, Portland [now Saint John], New Brunswick. She was living with her daughter, Catherine, and her husband, Patrick Quinlan [d. 05 OCT 1927]. She is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery. (2.) Sarah Jane SAVAGE and John BRENNAN are listed in 1854 as John's baptismal sponsors (see above). They were married, and moved west after 1875 with James MEEHAN (above) and Catherine MURRAY. I don't know if the KEARNEYs were already in the Oregon Territory, went with, or came later, but they also lived in Astoria, OR, and had cousins in San Francisco. [the Kearneys were related to the Murray/Toners] Excuse the length! I have all of the above information (10 pages in all!!!) due to the kind help of people on this NB list who gave me my ggrandparents marriage date and directed me to the Catholic Diocesan Archives. Thanks again to everyone who has helped, Margaret KIRK/SCULLY (MULLEN), REID/TAHANY MEEHAN/SAVAGE>QUINLAN, TONER/KEARNEY>MURRAY, IRVING ........................................................................................ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Terry Gillespie" <[email protected]> To: "mkirk" <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 24, 2002 6:36 PM Subject: Re: [NB-L] Interesting website Did any of your Savages spend time in Melrose, Westmorland County? >>>>>>>> Not sure <<<<<<<<<< Terry Gillespie ----- Original Message ----- From: "mkirk" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 24, 2002 10:04 PM Subject: Re: [NB-L] Interesting website > Gordon, > My MEEHAN, BRENNAN/SAVAGE, and KEARNEYS from IRL>NB went to the Skamokaway, WA, and Astoria, Holton/St.Helens, and Portland, OR.
