Hello all I haven't posted for a while, so here goes. I am seeking information about Jeremiah Clarke who emigrated from County Mayo, Ireland about 1837 with his sons, Darby, Anthony and Martin. I believe they came from Ballykinletteragh in CO. Mayo. I was there this past fall and found some Clarkes who remembered the family names Jeremiah and Darby. We spent a very interesting evening chatting with them. The only problem was, they could not seem to remember too much about their ancestors! They were able to show us an old cottage where some of the Clarke's lived. Just the stone walls were standing but we could see where the fireplace was and the place where the bed was built into the wall. It was truly moving to be standing in the same place where my ancestors stood. We also visited the cemetery where the Clarkes were buried and found the same names have been handed down through the family as recently as my father. Jeremiah and family reportedly left Ireland via the Port of Sligo and came to Oswego, New York in 1837, and then on to Buffalo, NY where he died. All his sons eventually ended up in Wisconsin around 1853. If anyone has any information, I would be happy to hear from you. I also want to thank those on this list who gave me valuable information before I took my trip. Several kind souls wrote and located Ballykinletteragh on the OS map so we were able to drive right to it, even though it no longer exists. Without their help, I may have not have located the area.
