    1. Re: [MAYO] ADMIN - new administrator
    2. Best of luck to the new administrator. I am fairly new to this subscription list - so please forgive me for not knowing how this works. Can I post a question about my Mayo ancestors in the hope that someone may have some knowledge of where I could go to find information? If that is so - here goes: Both my maternal grandparents were born in Buckagh, Newport (Tawnamartola) County Mayo My grandmother was Mary Ann Murray, born August, 1886, to John Murray and Mary Sheridan. John Murray's parents were Martin Murray and Margaret Keane. I have been unable to find any information about Martin or Margaret or if they had additional children other than John. Mary's parents were Dominick Sheridan and Bridget Geraghty - Again, I can find no information about them to see if Mary had any siblings. My grandfather was Patrick Brice, born January 1888, to Richard Brice and Mary Chambers. I do have information about Mary Chambers but no information as to whether Richard had siblings. Any suggestions as to any sites that could possibly help? I have tried Ancestry.com, as well as the Newport Historical society and the 1901 and 1911 census. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 3. Welcome to the list, Nancy. Yes, on a mailing list, one can post a question and hopefully someone on the list will know the answer to your question and post it to the list. Your maternal grandparents, Mary Ann Murray were born the 1886, after civil registration in Ireland. Since you already have her parents' name and her place of birth, I suggest two avenues of research to find more siblings...either religious records or civil registration births. Neither are on Ancestry.com. Same for other grandparents. To find what available RC records for County Mayo, check out this website: http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/mayorc.htm You will find many have been filmed by the Family History Library and you can search them very reasonably at your local Family History Center. Or you can order paid research at the Mayo North Family History Research Centre at: http://www.irish-roots.net/mayo-north.asp Many of the Civil Records have also been filmed by the FHL so you may be able to do your own research using their films. You can check for available years and film numbers at: http://www.familysearch.org Or, you can order a search from the Ireland General Register Office at: http://www.groireland.ie/ Feel free to ask questions as they arise. There are many knowledgeable people on this list who are always helpful. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    3. Thanks. None of the surnames that I know are mine ... yet! Were you related to James Matthew Griffith living ca. 1888 in County Mayo? He was the executor of a relative's estate in Claremorris in that year. His mother was a Higgins, I believe. I have recently been in touch with a member of the Griffith family currently living in County Mayo. 3. > > I would love to help you .. Have never set up a web page but sure I can > learn ..What do I have to do ??? First you need a program that creates webpages. I use Front Page which is a Microsoft program that they are no longer upgrading, instead they went to a new program called Expression Web which I have but like FP better. I believe you can get some free programs online. Once you have a program and are ready to create pages and have picked a civil parish, I will send you my prototypes for both civil parishes and townlands. You fill in the blanks and save the page to the name of the civil parish or townland. Once you get the first one done, it gets easier. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    3. > > My error on TONMORE ... Guess you found out there were two different townlands, Toonmore and Toormore. FYI I have and index of all the townlands, as listed in the 1851 Townland Index on this section of the website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlmayo/townlands.htm If they are in green and/or underlined, it means there is a webpage for the townland. There are over 3,000 townlands listed for County Mayo, I have over 800 online. I will add any townland requested on my next update. Otherwise, I add the townlands as I add the civil parishes which are here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlmayo/maps.htm Scroll down a little, you will see a map of Mayo and the civil parishes that are painted in green are those that are online. Underneath the map, is a list of all the civil parishes. Those underlined are online. For each civil parish, I have created a page for all the townlands in it, plus links and LDS Family History Films. With each update, I add at least one civil parish, depending on the size. I am always looking for help.
