Hi Ellen: Thank you for your prompt reply and recommendation. I just wote an e-mail to The Western People and am hoping that they may provide some new clues. I'll also contact St. Patrick's Parish Church as you suggested. When I'm in Ballyhounis this September, I'll have to stop in Kiltimagh, too. Thanks again, Edward ----- Original Message ----- From: <enalibof@netscape.net> To: <mayo@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 12, 2007 7:38 PM Subject: Re: [MAYO] Kearney Family > Edward, it all happened 15 years ago at a much slower pace than we can > operate now. Subject: [IRL-MAYO-KILTIMAGH] Aiden Street Reunion Launch of Booklet Western People July 11, 2007 http://westernpeople.com/community/pdf/Kiltimagh,%20Bohola,%20Galway.pdf (photograph) AIDEN STREET REUNION THERE was a very successful launch of the Aiden Street Journal by Michael Commins of Mid West Radio on Monday night, July 2, at which practically every house in the street was represented. Brian Mooney was Master of Ceremonies and entertained everyone with stories of earlier days in the street. The Reunion festivities start on Friday night, July 20 at 9 p.m. in the Cill Aodain Court Hotel with finger food followed by entertainment. >From 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday there will be a tour of the Museum and the opportunity to see Basil Burke’s slide show and Johnnie Kelly’s video of life in Kiltimagh since the 1920s. This will be followed at 3 p.m. with a walkabout, incorporating a hunt for hidden treasure, starting at the Market Square and at 5:30 p.m. there will be a special Mass for the street’s deceased in the Parish Church. Afterwards there will be an exhibition of photographs in the Cill Aodain Court Hotel. The Aiden Street Journal will be available for sale or alternatively from Mary McNicholas at the Kiltimagh Business Bureau, price €10. At 8 p.m. there will be an official welcome followed by buffet and party in the Cill Aodain Court Hotel. Tickets for the reunion, which cover the food and entertainment on both nights, are €35, otherwise the price for the Friday night alone is €10. It is essential to book tickets as soon as possible as the Hotel will need to know the number attending. It is hoped the reunion will be well supported and all associated with organising it are confident that it will be a really great success. -------------------------------
Edward, it all happened 15 years ago at a much slower pace than we can operate now. Hi Don and Ellen: I just read with great interest your exchange and remarkable success and determination. I, too, am trying to locate the birth or baptism records of my Great-grandfather, Patrick J. Fitzmaurice, born in Ballyhounis about 1843. (He married in the U.S. in 1869 and died here in 1896.) Could you please explain The Western People and how to contact them? Thank you so much for the inspiring story! Thanks Pat. Can find no connetion Kilmaine McHales and Lough Conn ones - though there very likely is one somewhere, McHale being a very common name in Co. Mayo. Best regards and good luck. Hallo again. About all I have that isn't on the original posting is that the Francis who emigrated to NZ in 1866 married Julia O'Leary (Fieries, Co. Kerry) in Blenheim in 1877. They had five daughters and two sons, Owen and Francis of course. Francis, known as Frank and Sonny, shot and killed Owen in a hunting accident in 1908, then served in World War 1 from August, 1914, to September, 1918. Cheers and good luck. Hi All Can anyone give me a explanation why the surname "Muldoon was abreviated to Mdoon in some early Irish records? Pre 1901 census the surname was listed as Mdoon however post 1901 Muldoon was recorded for the surname of the same person. After you have the marriage license, go to the church records. In many parishes, the priest included the parents' names. My uncle was the informant for his mother's death record but he did not know her mother's name. I then ordered the death recors of her siblings and, fortunately, their sons knew the name and were in agreement. The names of parents is very important to differentiate among the redundant Irish names!
