    2. I am searching for Concannons anywhere in County Mayo. They immigrated in 1863 to NYC. I got in on your offer a little late and am not sure your source will contain anything about them. They were: MARTIN JAMES CONCANNON, his wife ANNE CONCANNON, and his mother-in-law JULIA WALSH. Thank you for your help. 2. Most McTigues or the variant McTighe came from South Mayo around Claremorris. I have family in that area and have done an extensive family tree of the McTigues. A lot of them in the early 1800's came from the Shrule and Kilmaine area. You can check with the local churches such as Holy Family in Irishtown, St Joseph's in Ballindine and the churches in Shrule, etc. for others related to your Patrick. 1. Re: [MAYO] Famine refugees was [IRISH-FAMINE] Irish Famine Museum.
    2. Nancy and Thomas are the only entries for that surname. Have you looked in Liam Sword's "In Their Own Words"? My ggf was mentioned. "Tuesday 30 March (1847). Michael Coggers, Anthony Cannon, John Coggers, John Lavin, and Pat Mulderrig to Lord-Lieutenant complaining that they were not paid 8d a day for the use of their asses on the line of road from Springhill to Balla in the barony of Gallen." "Bohola, Sunday 16 May (1847). P.J. O'Connor CC to Society of Friends re an order on Westport which was recalled. " . . . This very day I have to record the death of a man named Patrick Mulderrig of Grallagh who was found dead in his cabin and it cannot be ascertained when he died or how long he remained unheeded and unheard of but the fact of the greater part of the human visage viz. his nose, eyes and mouth and also his fingers and toes been eaten of by rats, tells he must have remained there unheeded for a considerable time. . . Another source would be 'The Famine in Mayo: a portrait from contemporary sources 1845-1850' 'Fever, dysentery and diarrhoea are greatly on the increase, beginning with vomiting, pains, headache very intense; coming to a cnsis in about seven days, relapsing again once or twice, from which death occurred through mere debility or diarrhoea, caused and kept up by bad food, principally Indian meal, supplied to them in small quantities, and which they invariably swallow after only a few minutes boiling and sometimes cold and raw. The greatest mortality is among the labourers, men and women, on public roads, in cold, wet, boggy hills'. 'The Famine in Mayo: a portrait from contemporary sources 1845-1850' Compiled and Edited by Ivor Hamrock Hardback 152 pages 65 illustrations ISBN 0951962450 Date of publication: 2004 PRICE ?15 (inc. postage) avaughan@mayococo.ie <avaughan@mayococo.ie> This can be ordered from Mayo Library I do not own either book so am unable to do lookups. 1. Re: [MAYO] Famine refugees was [IRISH-FAMINE] Irish Famine Museum.
    2. I have the Register of Deceased Persons at Grosse Ile at Sea and on Grosse Ile in 1847 which lists 8,308 victims and the companion volume 1847 Grosse Ile: a Record of Daily Events. Nearly 100,000 emigrants, mostly Irish, disembarked at Grosse Ile or the Port of Quebec that year. I also have A Farewell to Famine which lists the 847 people from Wicklow and Wexford who followed Fr Hore to New Orleans. I will do look-ups if you have more than a hunch that your ancestors might be among either group. You may be able to research thru whatever records the quarantine island of Grosse Ile may has at present.. This was the quarantine island during the time of the famine where thousands are buried and where other members continued up the St. Lawrence to Montreal. Others came over the border, one very famous one was the Henry Ford family who settled into farming and then family went on to Detroit and into history. Recently the President of Ireland opened a famine park in Canada, I do not know if it was Montreal or Toronto. You may be able to research the name thru the National Archives in Dublin, Ireland ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to IRISH-FAMINE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ________________________________________________________________________ Check Out the new free AIM(R) Mail -- Unlimited storage and industry-leading spam and email virus protection.
