    3. BALLINA CHRONICLE Ballina, Co. Mayo Wednesday, October 16, 1850 MARRIED. On Monday, the 14th instant, in the Parish Church of Kilcommon, Belmullet, by the Rev. Mr. Lees, Jane Adelaide, second daughter of Robert R. Savage, Esq., of Bangor, to Mr. Michael Gallagher, of Coolamore. DEATHS On Friday, 4th inst., at Rose Cottage, Westport, Lieut. Peter O'Malley, aged 67, of the South Mayo Militia, the youngest son of the late Owen O'Malley, Esq., of Burrishoole, and cousin of the late Gen. [?] O'Malley, and Sir Samuel O'Malley of Kilboyne. The deceased has left a widow and a large family. On the 6th inst., at Cullane, Francis Fenell, Esq., for 40 years a J.P. of the county of Mayo. At Michael's Grove, Brompton, Elizabeth, wife of Eneas MacDonnell, Esq. EX OFFICIO GUARDIANS The following are the ex-officio Guardians of this Union [Ballina] for the ensuing year: - Colonel F.A.K. Gore- Belleek Manor Edward Howley, Esq., Belleek Castle Captain W. Atkinson, Rehins Captain John Knox, Greenwood Park William Malley, sen, Esq., Ballina Henry Wm. Knox, Esq., Netley Park. Thomas Paget, Esq., Knockglass William Gardiner, Esq., Cloonagh John Bourke, Esq, Ballina William Symes, Esq., Ballina Arthur Ormsby, Esq., Curimbla Mervyn Pratt, Esq, Enniscoe Edward Orme, Esq., Ballycorroen Thomas G. Bourke, Esq., Richmond John Walsh, jun, Esq., Castlehill Major J.F. Knox, Mountfalcon Annesley Knox, Esq., Rappa Castle James K. Gore, Esq., Broadlands T. Jones, Esq., Castletown and Ardnaree James V. Jackson, Esq., Caramore Lord Arran, Saunderscourt. DIABOLICAL OUTRAGE - On the night of Sunday last, some miscreants posted a threatening notice on the house of Mr. Wood, an English gentleman residing at Tallagh, within a short distance of Belmullet. They afterwards set fire to his haggard, which, we have been informed, was totally consumed. Government has offered a reward of £100 for the apprehension of the ruffians concerned in this wanton and unprovoked attack on an unoffending gentleman. We trust the vigilance of the Constabulary of that remote district will speedily bring the perpetrators to justice. CASTLEBAR UNION - At the last meeting of the Guardians of this Union, Ignatius Kelly, Esq., was appointed Solicitor to the Board, having a majority of two over Mr. Myles Jordan, the only other candidate. THE HARVEST - Several farmers have sustained very considerable loss in the grain crops which unfortunately they were unable to gather home before the late high winds and rain. The potato blight seems to have been entirely stayed but in many instances the potatoes which were planted late have not grown to the full size. THE CONSTABULARY - Constable Phibbs, for some years in charge of the Ardnaree party of Constabulary, has been removed to Coolany, in the county of Sligo. Phibbs has been generally esteemed as a most active and efficient officer while at the Ardnaree station and we believe his removal to Coolany to be a preparatory step towards his promotion, which no man in the service better deserves. 3. Someone sent me this site today, and I could actually spend a whole day on it and not see it all. http://www.geograph.org.uk/ It is a gridded map of the British Isles that includes all of Ireland. As you click to get into the area you want to see, you will see some of the town(land) squares have pictures of the area, so you are not just getting a great map, you can look at pictures (and save them for your files) of the area you are interested in. Check it out and bookmark it for when you have lots of time. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

However, if I were you, I would check all three films for your names. You just never know what you will find. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    3. Pat, I don't know for sure but I am told it is in the same area that some of the family still lives. Unfortunately I don't know but one of the family and only have his city. This is Killala and maps tell me there is a Ballina near there. Whether this is correct or not I don't know because I don't have an actual address for him to ask. I got the data he looked up from a cousin in Dublin who I met in 1988 through a cousin here but I don't have the Dublin address either. The one in Killala is the geneologist and was able to look up the data fairly quickly I'm told.. 3. I am looking for info on father, mother, and ancestors of Mary Catherine McNulty born in Ballina County Mayo October 1864 to Patrick and Sara Mildred Gillard McNulty. I am guessing he, Patrick, was born around 1840 most likely in the Ballina/Killala area. Far as I can find they had three boys Patrick 1859, Michael 1865 and Thomas 1872 and Mary Catherine in 1864 all born in Ballina. Mary, known by Catherine, married Francis "Frank" Cavanaugh about 1889 in Troy, NY, and they had five children. Michael 1890 died by 1900; Sarah "Sadie" 1891 died by 1900; Anna M. 1893, married Wm Curtin died in PA; Adella "Della" 1894, married Charles Bethmann died in Schenectady, NY sometime after 1979; Francis Joseph Aug 1896, my grandfather, married Faye E. Manning of Plymouth, VT and died 12/1979. We know from records thier mother Sarah lived in Troy with Catherine's family after Frank's death in 1896 on 4th St. in Troy. I believe Sarah, with or without Patrick lived on Lincoln Ave in South Troy, NY. Main things I can't find are any info on mother, father and grandparents, aunts and Uncles. Any further info on this family would be greatly appreciated.

    3. How about posting your sites to the list and if you have a short description of what's on the site, that would be good. Put 'County Mayo Websites' in the title so those not interested can delete. Also, when sending the site(s), don't repeat this or other messages. I will put all the links on the Ireland GenWeb website that I volunteer to host at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlmayo/ Check out the LINKS section where I will add them. 1. [MAYO] Matthew / James BRENNAN
    2. Jon Bradshaw
    3. Hello all, this is my first posting to this particular list and I was wondering if there might be someone out there who can help with my Irish Links as I haven't a clue where to start with Irish research? My GG Father James BRENNAN was born in Ireland and I'm led to believe this was in County Mayo but its not definite. I believe he was in England in 1851 aged 21 so he probably came over around that time. He was an engineer who worked on the railways and spent most of his adult life in Doncaster staying also in Wales and Crewe for brief periods. He married Ann YOUDAN on the 20th march 1854 in Doncaster. His father is shown as Matthew BRENNAN, Cloth Manufacturer. This strikes me as a fairly well to do occupation so I was wondering if there are any records of Cloth manufacture around 1854 in Mayo linked to Matthew BRENNAN? I'd love to find records of James birth and his mothers name and any info on Matthew or earlier links. If any of this rings any bells out there or someone can help with info please get in touch, I'd be most grateful. Regards Jon Bradshaw Sheffield England
