    3. Achill RC records for 1867-1913 FHLC#1279259 Tuam diocese Murphy and Reilly transcribed the marriage records for Tuam Diocese for 1820-1829 and Heritage Books published the book. So, I guess the answer is "No". The National Library of Ireland microfilmed the RC records from the earliest dates until 1880. The Mormon missionaries redid some of the parish records (the clue is that the FHLC# is 1279xxx) from the earliest extant to a later date. The parish priests told me that they do not have earlier sacramental registers than for the dates filmed. Nothing dramatic. . .the books are just lost. Joe Egan told me that a book has been found recently so there is always hope. 1. [MAYO] Land aquisition information
    2. I have read somewhere that at some time in the 1930,s, land that was previously owned and then abandoned by its owners who left Ireland for England or other countries during famine and the twenty or so years following, was the subject,by the government of a search for heirs,in order to "close the books" on this property or restore the valuation of same .I have knowledge that my relatives were contacted, two generations removed from the original owner, traveled to Mayo to view the property and decided to forego continuing the ownership as the heirs apparent. Could someone with any knowledge of this program please offer some insight into the features of it and give any idea whatsoever regarding it.. I have been unable to pinpoint the location of the property as the information is not now available and since I am still looking to establish the Townland that my family originated in, this information may provide further clues to their location...I only know they came from the Swinford area... All family name are very common and difficult to pin down. Thank you for this information.. I can also be reached at [email protected] Al Gallagher in Florida Researching: Gallagher, Dunleavy, Hendrie Mayo,W.Yorkshire, Lanarkshire

    1. [MAYO] Foxford
    2. Dear Mayo People, Would anyone know which Mayo Family Heritage Centre Foxford is in and what their e-mail address is. My Grandfather John James Gallagher was born there in 1865. I have a note saying "This is to certify that John Gallagher of Foxford was baptized in this parish on the 29th day of September 1865. John Cunning, P.P., Foxford 20th August 1895". I'd like to find where his parents, Martin and Bridget Milot Gallagher are buried and where their house was, if possible. Thank you. Joan Gallagher Schoshinski, Garrett Park, Maryland

    1. [MAYO] Clarkes in Mayo
    2. Hello all I haven't posted for a while, so here goes. I am seeking information about Jeremiah Clarke who emigrated from County Mayo, Ireland about 1837 with his sons, Darby, Anthony and Martin.  I believe they came from Ballykinletteragh in CO. Mayo.  I was there this past fall and found some Clarkes who remembered the family names Jeremiah and Darby. We spent a very interesting evening chatting with them.   The only problem was, they could not seem to remember too much about their ancestors! They were able to show us an old cottage where some of the Clarke's lived. Just the stone walls were standing but we could see where the fireplace was and the place where the bed was built into the wall. It was truly moving to be standing in the same place where my ancestors stood. We also visited the cemetery where the Clarkes were buried and found the same names have been handed down through the family as recently as my father. Jeremiah and family reportedly left Ireland via the Port of Sligo and came to Oswego, New York in 1837, and then on to Buffalo, NY where he died.   All his sons eventually ended up in Wisconsin around 1853.   If anyone has any information, I would be happy to hear from you. I also want to thank those on this list who gave me valuable information before I took my trip. Several kind souls wrote and located Ballykinletteragh on the OS map so we were able to drive right to it, even though it no longer exists. Without their help, I may have not have located the area. 2. Shelagh Garside
    3. I went to the FHC today and have found my g-grandmother's baptism, Catherine Groarke, in the Bohola parish records, plus her marriage to my g-grandfather, Michael Henry, in 1899. I then found Catherine's family in the 1901 census on-line at the Leitrim/Roscommon site so I'm a very happy bunny :D I've put all the new details on my web-site - it's probably easier for people to have a sift through there than me to try and list it all here and confuse everyone. You can see the pages at http://www.sgarside.co.uk - the relevant surnames are Groark(e), Henry and now there's a Doherty too. Shelagh

    1. [MAYO] Word of warning on the Ancestry Query Boards
    2. Word of Warning on the Query boards. IF you have ever posted on any query board with Rootsweb and IF you have ever purchased from Ancestry.com, your full name, not your email address or the name you choose to use on the web, is now attached to every post you ever made. This is a problem if you prefer to have a low profile on the web. There are many women and seniors out there who prefer to keep their last names confidential. You can fix this problem by going to the profile section of any query board and changing the information yourself. However, not everyone knows that this option is out there and in some cases people never return to look at the board. In that case they will never know that their full names (as used on your credit card) are out there attached to all that family information. I've written to Rootsweb/Ancestry asking them to change this function by using the persons email address but they've simply ignored me. So if you aren't happy with having your full name attached to your queries, make sure you go to the "new profile function" and change it.

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2001 7:00 AM Subject: MAYO-D Digest V01 #170 Since these computer things (virus, worms, and Trojans) are more likely to be transmitted by attachment than just by email, are you able to check the attachments before they are sent out? Fprot, PC-Cillin are checkers one can download free and/or by subscription. F-Prot is upgraded each month. There are a lot of others. Once Fprot is installed, you can have it run in the background all the time, so that should I would think alleviate the burden on you to check every fileattachment "manually." We appreciate the service you are doing. Pat McDonough [email protected]
