    2. Bob and Clare Jones
    3. Dear Mary Casey, Thanks for your message about Mayo relatives in Hartlepool. My gggrandparents came to Wayne Co.(Honesdale, PA) in 1853. Three children were born in England, the youngest in PA. (1860 census) They were Dominick MORAN and Anna McANDREW, reportedly from Mayo. I now live in Phoenix, AZ but grew up in Carbondale. I do know some Casey's in Carbondale and Scranton area. I will look for Dominick and Anna in Harlepool next time I go to the library, right now I'm stuck, not knowing where in Mayo they came from. 2. I am trying to find the towns in Ireland where my Grandfather and Grandmother came from. Here is what I've found or know. Garret Ruane from (possibly Kiltober). Immigrated 1907-1911. Born around 1874. Patrick Ruane (brother) Manifest at Ellis also states Kiltober as place of origin. Martin Ruane (brother) we believe he stayed in Ireland to help w/farm. Teresa McMahon married Garret in Elizabeth NJ. Lived their lives out there and are buried in Mount Olivet Cem. Newark NJ. Margaret McMahon married a Campbell. Patrick Ruane is buried in Calvary Cem. in the Bronx. Wife we believe was Catherine. We have received info. about a Garret and Patrick born in Castlerea,Roscommon. I have also rec'd a birth certificate for a Garret born in Rennenanny. We are sure there must be descendants left in Ireland. All of Garrets children, with the exception of my Mother are passed away. All the town records were destroyed in a fire and NJ State SS office has come up empty. It is impossible to locate them through immigration without a place of origin. There are three Garrets at Ellis Island. And many Patrick's. Garret passed away in 1947, Patrick in 1942, Teresa in 1949. Any info can be E-mailed to [email protected] God bless you and yours GOD BLESS AMERICA!

    1. [MAYO] (no subject)
    2. Dear Friends, Do any of you have Irish relatives who immigrated to Hartlepool, County Durham, England after the Famine late 1840's/1850 , later immigrating to Scranton, PA or other U.S. cities? They might've been from County Mayo. In particular, I am looking for friends or relatives of Dominick GILMARTIN/KILMARTIN & wife Ann JUDGE GILMARTIN/KILMARTIN who might've had the same experience. Dominick worked as an Iron Puddler in Hartlepool. Dominick and Ann were married in St. Mary's R. C. Church in Hartlepool, in 1853, had 6 children born and baptized at the church, 4 died and are buried at Hartlepool Cemetery. Surnames of friends who were wedding witnesses or godparents to their children were: MARTIN, SHEVELIN/SHOVELIN, BAGLEY, KELLY, GORMAN, GILGALLON, KILCANNON, and GEGIN (and various spellings of that name). Dominick & Ann JUDGE GILMARTIN immigrated to Scranton, PA, USA, in 1863. I am trying to learn where they were born in Ireland and think knowing who else might've settled in Hartlepool for work could help me determine where my family was from. English records do not state exact birthplace. Besides my surnames, I'm interested in anyone else who immigrated from Ireland to England and has connections to Hartlepool, County Durham, England. 1850's - 1860's. Thank you. Mary L. Casey

    3. Registration of non-Catholic marriages began in 1845 in Ireland. Registration of births, marriages and deaths, regardless of religion, began January 1, 1864 so you may find their births registered. Certificates for births, marriages and deaths for all of Ireland until 1922 and for the Republic since 1922 are housed in Dublin. Belfast has the records for Northern Ireland from 1922 to present in addition to the all Ireland records from 1864-1922. Civil registration of births, deaths and marriages in Ireland names the townland that is the address in rural Ireland. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the Mormons, has copies of almost all of the General Register Office indices and some registers, making direct access to both registers and indices possible through the local Family History Centers. You can do-it-yourself at the local Family History Centers because the FHL has acquired Irish civil registration records. There are Family History Centers scattered throughout the world, located in the LDS meeting-houses. The FHCs are generally listed in the local phonebook under Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with its own phone number. 3. I know that TARPEY is a Kiltimagh surname but KNEAFSEY is not among the Griffith's Valuation for Kiltimagh. Do a frequency and distribution of the surnames by using The Householders Index, (FHLC#919,001-7) a surname index of tax records in Griffith's Primary Valuation and Tithe Applotment Books or the CD-ROM Index to Griffith's Valuation. Griffith's identifies people between 1840 and 1864. Tithe Applotment covers the period of 1820 to 1840. This gets you to the parish level. These records give the names of the individuals (heads of households only), where they lived, the acreage, and the value of the land and building. These records do not give specific information about ages, birthplaces, and other members of the family. However, they point to the parish to search for baptismal and marriage information. 3. You did not give the time frame so I will tell you of the records. You can do it yourself at familysearch.org, then Family History Library, then Family History Library Catalog. Just looking for Mayo will not give you much but by going to the individual parishes you will find the church records and the 1901 census. Registration of non-Catholic marriages began in 1845 in Ireland. Registration of births, marriages and deaths, regardless of religion, began January 1, 1864. Certificates for births, marriages and deaths for all of Ireland until 1922 and for the Republic since 1922 are housed in Dublin. I can't begin to tell you how much your email messages meant to me upon arriving at work in Morristown, NJ this morning. My husband goes into the World Trade Center everyday (89th floor/North side -- literally right where the first tower was hit). He is a courier for the law firm that I work for. Fortunately, the accident happened shortly before he would have left for the city. One of our employees was trapped, waiting for oxygen when the towers collapsed. We all feared she died. Miraculously this morning we received word that by some miracle this woman untrapped herself and through unbelievable amounts of debris and smoke struggled down 89 floors to safety. I live in an area so hit by this tragedy (large population of commuters into that exact area), it is hard for me to truly comprehend what has happened. It will be days before we know what the losses are in our own community. Please keep us in your prayers, and again, thank you.
