    1. Re: NANCY MAYNARD PLUS
    2. Below is my interpretation of the family of Gibson Manard Sr. of Wilkes County, North Carolina: 1. Gibson1 Manard Sr., son of Unknown Manard and Unknown Unknown, was born circa 1750. Gibson died after 2 Aug 1800 in Wilkes County, North Carolina, at approximately 50 years of age. He married Sarah Unknown. 1778 State Census for Wilkes County, North Carolina - Gibson Maynard listed. (This is the earliest year that I know of that Gibson Manard Sr. appears in Wilkes County - AHB) 1790 Federal Census for Wilkes County, North Carolina, Morgan District, 6th Company - Gibson Manor, one white male over age 16, 2 white males under age 16, 5 white females of all ages. 1800 Federal Census for Wilkes County, North Carolina, Pg. 54 - Gibson Mainard - 1 male age 45 & over, 1 male age 10-16, 1 female age 45 & over, 2 females age 16-26, 1 female age 10-16, 3 females age under 10. Memorandum of Gibson Maynard's Will, August Term 1802, Wilkes County, North Carolina - From the Original at the North Carolina State Archives (Courtesy of Nancy Maynard Brown of Virginia) Memorandum of the will and desire of Gibson Maynard of his goods and property to his children, August of 2, 1800 --- To Gibson Maynard I leave one Cow and three grass heifers. To Sooky Maynard one bay two year old mare and one Cow and one feather bed & furniture belonging therewith. To Edy Maynard one young bay two year old horse, one Cow and feather bed and furniture therewith. To Larkin Maynard one bay three years old horse my new saddle and bridle one feather bed and furniture and Cow. To Gibson five ewes. To Larkin two ewes. To Sooky one ewe. To Edy one ewe. To my son Drury Maynard as much money save 100 acres of land out of the office now entered. The following of my property to my lawful wife and live on the land where I now live to live thereon her lifetime to raise the four youngest children and to dispose of the property to the four little girls Rhoda, Sally, Nancy and Catey as she sees cause or during widdow hood to enjoy the benefits and profits (?) and my plantations. Signed and Sealed in presence of Thos. Walsh, Henry Laurance and Jacob Lyons Gibson Maynard (Seal) May 1806 - May Term, 1806 Wilkes County Court Records - Petition of Sarah Maynord, widow of Gibson Manard Sr. against the executors of the estate of Gibson Manard Sr. naming her children... the following citation: "leaving children Drury, Gipson, Betsey wife of John Cates, Winnie wife of Henry Laurence, Susanah, Edy wife of Nathaniel Beck, Nancy, Caty, Larkin, Rodah of Sarrah Maynord, the three last of which were commited to the guardianship of Henry Laurence which duty he continues to exercise..." (Obviously Caty, Larkin & Rodah are not of age at this time and therefore are the youngest children. Daughter Sarah is not mentioned and I am presuming she may have been deceased by this time. I know little or nothing about Nancy, Caty, or Rodah. Henry Lawrence, husband of the late Winnie Manard, left Wilkes County, for Georgia between 1825-1830. He and Larkin Manard appear in the 1830 Pike County, Georgia Census and it is possible that one or two of the younger Manard girls may be there also but this is purely speculation on my part. I think more work has to be done in the 1800-1820 time frame in Wilkes County to try and determine which of the children were still there. Gibson Manard Jr. and John Cate & his wife, Elizabeth Manard, are found during this period in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Drury Manard appears I believe on the 1800 Census for Ashe County, North Carolina. Not much is known about Drury after this time. He may be the Drury/Drewry Mainard who appears in the White County, Tennessee deed records of 1811. Edy Manard Beck and family appear in Robertson County, Tennesee as early as 1812. They and their descendants are belived to have later gone to Illinois. Susannah "Sooky" Manard is still a bit of a mystery. There are Wilkes County, NC deed records showing transactions between the executors of the estate of Gibson Manard Sr. and a Susannah Manard/Mainard as early as 1806. This Susannah also sells land to Larkin Manard as late as 1814, proved in Wilkes County, NC Court in 1818. She may have married later. Some want to attribute this Susannah Manard as being the Susannah Manard who marries Isaac Cate in 1807 in Jefferson County, Tennessee… I cannot verify this later assumption. Gibson Manard Jr. and Delilah Cate are my great-great-great-great grandparents. AHB) 1810 Federal Census for Wilkes County, North Carolina, Page 270 - Sally Maynard - 1 male 26-45, 2 females 45 & over, 1 female 26-45. Gibson Manard Sr. and Sarah Unknown had the following children: 2 i. Elizabeth 'Betsey'2 Manard was born in North Carolina circa 1770. Elizabeth died after 1830 in McMinn County, Tennessee. She married John Cate. John was born circa 1766-69, in North Carolina. John was the son of Charles Cate Sr. and Sarah Baldwin. John died after 1830 in McMinn County, Tennessee. 3 ii. Winnie Manard was born in North Carolina circa 1773. Winnie died before 1813 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. She married Henry Hardy Lawrence in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, in 1789. Henry was born 12 Jun 1771, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Henry was the son of Thomas Lawrence and Lucy Womack. He married Lany Visant in Wilkes County, North Carolina, 22 Feb 1813. Henry died 8 Apr 1855 in Chattooga County, Georgia, at 83 years of age. (This marriage citation comes from the Lawrence family researchers. I find it hard to believe the marriage occurred in Pittsylvania Co., VA since both the Manard and Lawrence families were in Wilkes County, NC by this time. AHB) 4 iii. Drury Manard was born before 1774. He married Unknown Unknown in North Carolina, circa 1790. Unknown was born before 1774. 5 iv. Susannah 'Sooky' Manard was born circa 1776. 6 v. Gibson Manard was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina circa 1778. Gibson died 22 Dec 1842 in Adams County, Illinois, at 64 years of age. His burial was after 22 Dec 1842 in Adams County, Illinois. He married Delilah Cate in North Carolina, circa 1800. Delilah was born circa 1781, in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Delilah was the daughter of Charles Cate Sr. and Sarah Baldwin. Delilah died 13 Sep 1876 in Adams County, Illinois, at 95 years of age. Her burial was after 13 Sep 1876 in Manard-Cate Cemetery, Honey Creek Township, Adams County, Illinois. 7 vi. Edith 'Edy' Manard was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina circa 1780. Edith died circa 1840 in Fayette County, Illinois. She married Nathaniel Beck in Wilkes County, North Carolina, circa 1802. Nathaniel was born circa 1765, in North Carolina. He married Unknown McGinnis before 1802. Nathaniel died circa 1840 in Fayette County, Illinois. 8 vii. Nancy Manard was born circa 1785. 9 viii. Larkin Manard was born in North Carolina circa 1786. Larkin died circa 1857 in Griffin, Spalding County, Georgia. He married twice. He married Phebe Phillips in Wilkes County, North Carolina, 18 Dec 1811. Phebe died circa 1830/37. He married Milly Dingler in Pike County, Georgia, in 1837. 10 ix. Sarah 'Sally' Manard was born circa 1791. 11 x. Catherine 'Catey' Manard was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina after 1792. 12 xi. Rhoda 'Rhody' Manard was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina circa 1795. Comments and corrections always welcome. Allan H. Baumbach 810 East Shady Way #309 Arlington Heights, IL 60005 Al in IL

It is good reading. I am not connected to your branch (at least not yet) as I have come to a stumbling point on my Maynard's in Wake Co., NC in about the same time period. I am searching a Benjamin MAYNARD (????-1808) who may have married a Hanah Thompson (????-????) whose son Elijah MAYNARD (1795-1859) married a Sarah PARHAM (1797-1865) in NC and later removed to Monroe Co. GA in 1825. Just in case you might run across them!! Bob Maynard Lewisville, TX
