Does anyone know if Lt. Robert Maynard, slayer of Blackbeard the pirate, was in any way related to the Maynard families of early Virginia/North Carolina? Lt Maynard served in the Royal Navy and was carrying out the orders of Gov. Spotswood of Virginia when he and his men confronted the infamous pirate off the Carolina coast near Ocracoke (sp?)
