Hello all! I live in Cincinnati, OH and I will be making a trip to WVA the first weekend in June for the "June meetin'" of a church on Queen's Ridge in Wayne Co. I will be there May 31 and June 1-4. I also hope to do some research in Lincoln & Logan Counties, at least. Does anyone know if there is a genealogical society for each county? Where do I go for info, the courthouse, a library, or both? What type of info is held in the counties? The names that I am researching are: Bryant (Ball family married to Bryants), Dalton, Dawson, Ellerd, Honaker, Isaacs, Jackson (family married to Bryants), Marrs, Maynard-two branches, Maxwell, McCloud, Nelson, Pack, Pinson, Queen, Ratliff, Vance, Wellman-family of Lindsey, and Workman. I love to meet those related, gather stories, and old pictures. I do this research for my enjoyment, to share with other family members, and to give my children/grandchildren a personal feeling of their roots. This is not to produce any book or to make money. While in the area, I'll be happy to obtain information for others unable to make that trip! Terri Davis Cincinnati, OH
Terri, The WV State Archives has most of the records. This is located in Charleston, WV. When you are on I-64, you can see the capitol complex ( I believe it is exit 98 or 99). The street is Greenbriar street. The capitol exit is one exit past "Capitol street" Exit when you are going East. I always thought that was funny. There are signs at the same exit for the airport. For the Capitol and archives, go RIGHT off of the Greenbriar exit instead of left to the airport. The archives are across the street from the capitol complex. Take a pencil and paper. They do not allow pens. Copies are inexpensive and the staff is helpful there. I am married to a Maynard. I have Davis from Southern Ohio in my genealogy.
