The James Manard mentioned is the son of William Maynard of Wake Co., who in his will dated 22 Feb 1816 (he died in 1817-1818) bequeathed to one of his sons, James, a slave named Abram. Apparently, James sold Abram a couple of years later in Sampson Co. Thanks for the additional info. Ed Todd
