    1. Mary Jane Russell Maynard
    2. Patty Champion Sanderlin
    3. Hi am new to the list, I am in search of the parents of Mary Jane Russell b. Feb. 1851 Cornwall England. Mary Jane married John Maynard Sept 4, 1875 in Jermyn Pa. Mary Jane had a sister Harriet, married my GG grandfather Thomas Champion, but that is all I know about them. Maybe if I can find more information out about Mary Jane and Harriet I might just be able to break down my brick wall for Thomas. Patty Champion Sanderlin searching names: Armstrong, Campbell, Champion, Curnow, Freeman, Meek, Richards, Russell, Taylor and Wass

    1. Lt. Robert Maynard & Blackbeard
    2. Kate Maynard
    3. Does anyone know if Lt. Robert Maynard, slayer of Blackbeard the pirate, was in any way related to the Maynard families of early Virginia/North Carolina? Lt Maynard served in the Royal Navy and was carrying out the orders of Gov. Spotswood of Virginia when he and his men confronted the infamous pirate off the Carolina coast near Ocracoke (sp?) Island. -- Kate Maynard

    1. Wm Maynard of Williamsburg, VA (vet of French Ind War)
    2. I recently looked at a message on the Maynard message board on America On-line and it stated there was a William Maynard of Williamsburg, VA who was included in files pertaining to the French-Indian Wars of 1754-63. This William was with Colonol Spotswood from 1756-1757. He was shown as 28 years old, born in England, scar on his lip, residing in Williamsburg, fair complexion, well set, and occupation, shoemaker. It was also suggested that this William Maynard who was a veteran of the French and Indian War may be connected somehow to William Maynard b. abt. 1750 who came to the Tug River Valley in Eastern Kentucky and Southwest Virginia because according to Moses Maynard b. 1766, the son of the latter William, his father was also a shoemaker. Since trades and occupations were more commonly handed down from generation to generation during that era, this may be an important clue in identifying the father of the three Maynard brothers who came to the Tug River Valley from NC aro! un! d 1800. 3. Kathy, This suggestion is probably something that you already know. But to be on the safe side, I'll mention it anyway. From doing my own MAYNARD research, I have found that that are a whole bunch of variant spellings and transcription typos. I have used 40 of these in my research and have found ancestors under many of the variations---it is amazing!!! There are some early tax lists for NC, VA, MD, etc. Using the childrens' names could be helpful in locating Nancy's father and/or grandfather. I have basically found that keeping a very open mind and using a very vivid imagination go a long way in coming up with some of the answers in my research. Hope I may have been a bit of help. Much good luck to you. Tootsie PS Some of the typos that I have used are Weynard, Waynard, Heynard, and Sinyard.

    3. To Ed, Johnnie and Maynard Listers: My Maynard / Mainard ... etc. line is also out of TN, supposedly removed there from NC. I have hit a Brick wall with my : Nancy Maynard ( b. 1806 , White county TN. ) She went on to marry a David Scott, Her daughter Emaline Maynard married John Scott ( David's Brother ) Some of the other children were Levi and Vincent ( 1828 ) and Samuel ( 1845 ) I have seen members of this family listed in White and DeKalb counties of TN. Later in the 1850's my Line ( Vincent ) moves on to Macon County with futher dispersion to Davidson and Jackson counties of TN. I would love to hear from anyone researching this Maynard line, I am particularly interested in finding out who the parents and siblings of Nancy Maynard ( 1806 ) might have been. 3. Hi Paula and Maynard List. I'm investigating this particular Maynard line as being the ancestors of my Nancy Maynard born 1806, possibly in TN or NC. Family oral tradition speculates that our Maynards started of in North Carolina after migrating here from ? England / Germany / Ireland ?. I was thinking that there might be a connection through Gibson Maynard's daughter, Nancy.... but his Nancy was born about 15 years earlier than my Nancy. Anybody able to point me in the right direction ? By the time My Nancy shows up in a White County TN 1840 and 1850 census, Most of her children are married and some dispersed to other middle TN counties. I would just love to know who the parents and siblings of Nancy Maynard b~1806 were. Any help / insight / advise .... would be greatly appreciated.
