    3. Thank you Ann. Once again we all can be very grateful to the church for the wonderful resources they share with us all. I have owned the 1880 census CD set almost since it came out and have used it a great deal. It was a tremendous effort and accomplishment, and this is not at all meant as a criticism, but anyone using the set, and I assume the online information, should be aware that there are many errors. This was a transcription effort, and we all know that the census can often be very challenging to read. In comparing the extractions to images of the actual pages I have found many understandable errors. For instance, once I found the name Hattie transcribed as Hallie. When I looked at an image of the actual page I saw that the line which was supposed to cross the Ts in Hattie was drawn above them, and it did in fact look like Hallie. I checked the online census, and the same error is found there, so I assume the online information is the same as what is found in the CD set. I have seen errors like that very often in this set--it's probably actually a very small percentage of the transcriptions, and of course it happens in other indexes as well, but it is possible that when searching one won't find someone who actually is in the census or that some detail is incorrectly transcribed. This is a fantastic resource because one can search any name, not just the head of household. I have found the CD set, which offers more search refinement that the online search, and incidentally is very inexpensive, to be something I use almost every day because of this amazing every name search capability. So again, this is not at all a criticism, but only a caution. This resource is not perfect--not that any is--and one should not take it as the last word. ***-----Original Message----- ***From: hopk4525@bellsouth.net [mailto:hopk4525@bellsouth.net] ***Sent: Wednesday, October 23, 2002 3:36 PM ***To: MAYFLOWER-L@rootsweb.com ***Subject: [MFLR] Fw: [MSFRANKL-L] LDS Family Search (The Mormon Site) has ***put 1880 Index online! *** *** *** *** *** Great news folks!
