    3. I would have to agree with Susan - I don't see any conflict here. I looked at all seven of the sites that Steve mentioned. The first four did not cite sources. The fifth cited a family history for the marriage of William Soule and Hannah Brewster: G.T. Ridlon Sr., History, Biography and Genealogy of the Families Named Soule, Sowle and Soulis, Journal Press, Lewiston, Maine, Volume I, This book is the second volume of the history and genealogy of the Soule, Sowle and Soulis families of Connecticut., 1926, ONLY FIVE HUNDRED COPIES PRINTED. I am not familiar with this work and do not know whether or not it in turn cites a primary source for the marriage. The web site does not specify which page of the genealogy that information comes from. The sixth site did not cite sources. The seventh site has "REFERENCE: 12332" under the names of both William Soule and Hannah Brewster, but it is not hotlinked or footnoted so I have no idea what "REFERENCE: 12332" is. By contrast the work that Susan cited (MF 5) does document its sources. Now for my soapbox <grin>... There are precious few web sites that cite a source for each item of information. There is a very tiny subset of those that cite volume and page for each item in the way that any major genealogical journal does. Perhaps that is because citing volume and page requires a) detailed source citations in one's database and b) lots of hand-writing or hand-editing of HTML code. I can speak from the experience of my work on my own nascent genealogy site. I export each family from my database to RTF format with full footnotes for the citations, and massage it by hand to hotlink each item of information to its source, citing volume and page. It is a great deal of work, requiring about 15 hours to produce a 30k page for the second generation of one family. I have not found any tools that can partially automate the process while providing detailed source citations. Dale H.
