Next, see if any of those surnames appear in your own genealogy. You can then concentrate on those surnames. Now, that probably won't be a great help if you have a common surname like Brown in your ancestry. I have three unrelated Brown lines, but none are descended from Peter Brown of the Mayflower. Don't start with a Mayflower passenger and try to work through his descendants--the number of descendants soon gets to be too many.
