    1. [MFLR] Family Societies - start one!

    3. Some have asked why certain Mayflower families have no family society. As Gail pointed out, someone has to be interested enough to start one. There has to be interest and support, not just in the short term but for the long haul in getting in going and keeping it going. I pointed out in my last post that some of these societies are small and need support or they will go under. The Francis Eaton Society is apparently one of these - I have heard that it has already expired. Some were begun and then floundered because of lack of support - Warren Cousins for example was founded by an extremely enthusiastic person, however when she died, so did the society. It has since been resurrected. Anyone who is interested in helping to get a family society going should get a few interested people together to get the ball rolling and then advertise in The Mayflower Quarterly and The Mayflower Descendant to see if there is enough interest among their particular family. Also - check out the websites of some of the other families to get some ideas as to what you can do with your family society. Brown, Chilton, Cooke, Hopkins, More, Mullins, Priest, Samson, Standish, Tilly - they all need family societies. With the number of descendants in the Cooke, Hopkins and Samson families I would have thought they would already have a society. Susan E. Roser www.rootsweb.com/~canms/canada.html

    3. I am willing to help with a Cooke society. Never started anything like this but maybe if we contacted each other off line we could see where we stand. Anyone else want to help? Valeria Cooke descendant Mayflower Society General #69,119 ( For Francis Cooke )
