    3. Your story and mine are very simular, but I had never tried to join because of being illigitimately also. I love doing family history. I am proud of my lineage including my blacksheep. My dear old Edward Doty was a bit of a rounder, definitely not one of the Saints :-) They were all humans. ----- Original Message ----- From: "MsTigerHawk" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 12:59 PM Subject: Re: [MFLR] General ---- to Kess Leake-Campbell and others >I know what you mean, but I assure you that I myself don't think I'm better >than any other Mayflower descendant, including those who are just tracing >their lineage. 3. Well I am attempting to join soon and my father was illegitimate. I am happy though that he knew who his father was and knew him briefly in his later life. However due the stigma around that situation especially for back in the 1920's so far every document I have for my dad...... marriage license, death certificate, social security application ALL have different and/or an array of parental names he concocted in order to appear to be legit. I am now having my mother sign an affidavit stating SHE gave the correct parental information on his death certificate and was aware of all those people who's names he incorrectly used and WHO they were. At least I have knowledge of who his father was just so far no concrete proof other than what my mother put on the certificate. We've known of course who he was since we were very young. My brother was given a picture of him that was in my dad's possessions - I have been given pictures of him AND his family since doing my genealogy..... one picture of which is the very same one he gave to my father and signed it. Some people are so lucky which makes it just that much more difficult to join. Janean -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of L.L. 3. Janeen, I used an affidavit in place of a birth certificate for my membership application, and it was accepted. I wish you the best of luck. And for those who think that us Mayflower guys and gals have our noses up in the air: There are a lot of Mayflower descendants both here in the U.S. and in other countries, and the only difference is that the society members have done some research to prove it. We don't believe we're better, worse, or different. We just know family stuff.
