Hi folks, >From a web search it looks to me as though many people would very much like to know who Joseph was. I know virtually nothing about this, but it is an interesting puzzle and I'm hoping for a fuller explanation of this solution. I am having trouble understanding what source goes with what fact, but in any case it looks to me as though the critical point here is to connect the Joseph who married Eliza Coffee to his parents. I am not seeing how that is done. I do see in the Ethan Allen Doty book of 1897 the family of Solomon Doty (page 517) and that there is a Joseph born on June 6, 1812. To digress a bit on that source, it appears to me that the information given on that family was supplied by a sibling, Simon Potter Doty. If I am right it is not through any special deductive prowess--the book reads, "In the course of a pleasant visit...he gave many reminiscences...and furnished much valuable information for this history." The precise birth dates suggest to me that Simon Potter dragged out the family bible while Ethan Allen was visiting. All that is said of Joseph is that he married and had children and lived in Minnesota. Geanellen's peripatetic ancestor lived in many places and I may have missed Minnesota among them as I looked at what Geanellen and others have found. Also, this is apparently the recollection of an old man, and I know from experience that one needs to be skeptical about that. So maybe the Minnesota recollection is wrong or maybe Geanellen's ancestor did live there. As far as I can tell, the lineage down to Solomon and maybe down Solomon's son Joseph is documented well elsewhere. But how do we know this is the Joseph who married Eliza and is Geanellen's ancestor? If the answer is included in what was provided and I missed it I apologize for asking the question. Most of the time I need the important stuff in all caps. [For what it is worth, I have a CD of NY births and baptisms for the region as well as William McDermott's history of Clinton (1987) and neither offers any help.] -----Original Message----- >From: lynde randall <[email protected]> >Sent: Oct 31, 2006 9:56 PM >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [MFLR] MAYFLOWER Digest, Vol 1, Issue 32 > >Hi James, > >I hope this gives you a start in the right direction. >:) Your message is at >the end.
