    3. Margaret and other Simmons descendants. I have read every posting of this latest string about the Simmons family, and it only confuses me further! Have any of you gone on this website of Dale H. Cook? He posted the link a couple of weeks ago: History of Bridgewater by Nahum Mitchell, online book transcribed on website created by Cathy Joy Lasselle (CJ) McNew. Revised and maintained since 26-Aug-2002 by Dale H. Cook. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mabridge/mitchell/contents.html I do not know of Moses having the middle name of "Williams." I understood that his father was William. Also, there has been no proof that Sarah's surname--be it her maiden name or a former married surname--was CHANDLER. Never has a family been so complicated and misunderstood! I thought I finally got it right. Someone either puts an extra Moses in the line or an extra John, or an extra Job!!! As far as I have been able to understand, William Simonzoon was the first-known Simmons, and he married an unknown woman. As far as I can understand, he had just one son, Moses Simmons, also known as Moyses Symonson or Moses Symonds. He was born "about" 1605 in Leiden/Leydon, Netherlands. He died Bet. 17 June 1689 - 10 September 1691. He married Sarah (UNKNOWN). Their children were: Rebecca, b. abt. 1635 Moses, Jr., b. abt. 1639, m. Patience Barstow, b. abt. 1644 Mary, b. abt. 1641 John, b. abt. 1644 Sarah, b. abt. 1649 Elizabeth, b. abt. 1651 Aaron, b. abt. 1653 My line is: William Simon, m. Unknown Moses Simons/Moses Symonson, Sr., m. Sarah (Unknown) - I have just one son for William Simonzoon, no John, no Thomas. Moses, Jr., b. abt. 1639, m. Patience Barstow, b. abt. 1644 Job Simmons, Sr., b. abt. (I have no dates for him), m. Hannah Bishop (no dates for her) Job, Jr., (no dates), m. on 20 October 1742 in Pembroke, Plymouth, Massachusetts Abigail Parris, b. 30 November 1725, James Griff(is), Sr., b. 29 August 1739, m. on 22 October 1767 in Cornwall, Connecticut to Hannah Simmons, b. 1746. James Griff(es), Jr., b. 19 July 1777, m. Cyntha (Unknown). - the name changed to Griffes and stayed that way through myself! Orlin Griff(es), m. Susan Stilwell. Ensign Beals Griffes, m. Catherine Margaret Little - my great-grandparents. Whoops! For some reason I have Hannah Simmons' death date as "after 1758" and I do not know how I got that date. A typo on my part? James Griffis, Sr. and Hannah Simmons had a son James Griffes, Jr., b. 30 May 1773 and a daughter Sarah Borden Griffes, b. 19 July 1777, so how could Hannah have died in 1758? She would have been only 12 years old! Note: James Griffes, Jr. changed the spelling of his last name from Griffis to Griffes. I have the book, "History of the Simmons Family" by L.A. Simmons (Lorenzo Albert Simmons). I have read what was written in "The Great Migration Begins." I have read the transcription of "History of Bridgewater" by Nahum Mitchell. William Simonzoon had only one son named Moses, but no son named John, and no son named Thomas. Oh, and I do have Rebecca married to John Soule, but I have her married a second time to "Unknown."
