    3. Stuart, Your line looks fine for the first five generations, however the birth of #6 James Latham is given with the word "probably". This much can be found in MF 15 where the birth of James6 Latham, son of Thomas & Deborah (Hardin) Latham, in North Carolina, 14 Feb. 1736 is found on pg.87. The line is not carried further. It would be a good idea to have the Mayflower office in Plymouth check the line and see if they can find a previously approved, well documented paper which matches yours. Or, if you are working with a state historian, ask them to check for you. Perhaps someone has joined on this line who has found proof for James since the Chilton MF book was published in 1997. You might also ask whether or not James' placement in this family would be approved based solely on the MF book, or if more proof would be required. Don't worry too much about name variations and spellings (Harden, Hardin), it happens a lot. Best of luck, Susan E. Hi list. My family allegedly has Mayflower ancestry, and I wish to explore this with the eye to disproving or validating that research. I show lineage which follows this path... John Winslow - Mary Chilton Robert Latham - Susanna Winslow James Latham - Deliverance Alger Thomas Latham - Deborah Harden James Latham, Sr. - Agnes Hardin James Latham - Rebecca Williams Enoch Crandall - Elizabeth Latham William H. Perkins - Mary Louise Crandall William H. and Mary Louise are my GGG Grandparents. Is there any obvious error (or name spelling mistakes) in this line? The "Harden" and "Hardin" is cause for concern... -- Stuart Perkins stuartperkins@usa.net Frequently-asked questions may often be answered by visiting the FAQ page for this list at: http://www.craigrich.net/mayfaq.htm ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MAYFLOWER-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Susan, Thank you for the detailed response. This is just the sort of information I am after. The North Carolina link is very important to my lines. I have James Latham showing up in a will as one of three executors for James Perkins in 1760. James Perkins would be my 6th Great Grandfather. James Latham obviously existed at that time and place...the only question would be the reliability of his parentage. I also have James Perkins' father as David Perkins, who first shows up as a witness to a will in Albermarle in 1690, but I don't know from where he came. I would love to find information confirming a migration to North Carolina of Perkins and/or Latham lines. The Perkins line is obviously not of concern for this list, but the Latham line is. Do you have any information on when and where Thomas and Deborah Latham died? I show Thomas dying in 1769, but I don't have month/day or where. Do you have contact information for the Mayflower office in Plymouth? I believe that would be my next step. The variation between Harden and Hardin doesn't bother me nearly as much as their similarity. Were Deborah Harden and Agnes Hardin aunt and neice? Just a bit of Arkansas and/or Kentucky humor... 3. I think part of the problem with making "official" connections to early North Carolina settlers is that the earliest settlement of that region was illegal. People were moving in before they were "supposed" to. Does anybody on this list have information concerning the location of the deaths of Thomas and Deborah?
