Hi, This is an answer I received in 1998 from Judy in Az. in answer to a similar question that you posed. "According to Susan Roser's book "Mayflower Increasings", p.4, the Edmund Chandler who m. Elizabeth Alden is the son of Joseph (2) and grandson of Edmund (1). No birth date, but d. between 4 Apr. 1715 and 28 Sept. 1717. Elizabeth m. (2) Pelatiah West. Marriage date for Elizabeth and Edmund shown in the book is pre 2 July 1711. Lydia who m. Richard Higgins as you said, is the dau. of Edmund (1) which would make her a sister to Josph (2) and aunt to Edmund (3). " I hope this helps a little. Rosalie in Bar Harbor, Me. (I am from Benjamin's brother Jonathan) From what information I have, the Edmund Chandler (below) did not marry Elizabeth Alden of the Mayflower lineage. (However, she did marry Edmund Chandler, born 1670 (son of Joseph and Mercy,) grandson to the Edmund we are discussing. Hope that helps! Lee Pilgrim Village Families Sketch: Edmund Chandler Robert Charles Anderson Birth: He was born in England, probably by 1587. Death: He died in Duxbury between May 3, 1662, the date of his will, and June 2, 1662, the date of his inventory. Ship: Unknown, probably 1629 or 1630 [see below] Life in England: Nothing is known of his life in England. Life in Holland: Edmund Chandler has been identified as the man of that name in Leiden by 1613. In that year he became a citizen. He held three known occupations in Leiden, say weaver, draper and [tobacco] pipe maker. He buried a child at the Pieterskerk in 1619, at which time he lived on the Nieuwestadt. He lived in Duxbury, where he served on various committees and as constable in 1636 and 1637. Chandler’s name appeared in a number of land deals. At his death, he owned property in Duxbury, Bridgewater and Dartmouth. In his will, he gave three of his daughters “three thousand and five hundred [weight?] of sugar which belongs to me in Barbadoes.”As one of his sons sailed for Barbadoes, where he died, Edmund Chandler might have had investments there as well. He may have been the brother of Roger Chandler, another colonist who had lived in Leiden. Family: Edmund Chandler had at least one wife and probably two, as there is a signicant gap between his third and fourth children. Neither of the wives are known by name. He made no mention of a wife in his will and was probably a widower. Children of Edmund and ______ Chandler: Samuel was born about 1612. He married by 1673, but the wife’s name is unknown. There were no recorded children. He died in Dexbury in 1683. [Probably] Lydia was born about 1614. >Samuel Higgins who married Thankful Mayo Benjamin Higgins married Lydia Bangs Richard Higgins married Lydia Chandler Edmund Chandler married Elizabeth Alden John Alden married Abigail Hallett John Alden married Priscilla Mullins< According to the Alden silver book, Pt I, it was Jonathan Alden who married Abigail Hallett on 10 December 1672 at Duxbury. Their daughter Elizabeth was born “probably not before Sept. 1673.” “She married first,[before 2 July 1711] Edmund Chandler, son of Joseph and Mercy (--) Chandler, who died between 20 May 1715 and 28 September 1717… She married second, at Duxbury, 12 July 1722, Peletiah West…” The only child listed for Elizabeth Alden and Edmund Chandler is a “possible child” John, who was mentioned in the 1721 will of his grandfather Joseph. It goes on to say, “If he was a son of Edmund Chandler, he probably died young, as he did not share in his father’s estate.” Further, “Evidence that no children of Edmund Chandler survived is found in the lack of any guardianship or division of the property of Edmund Chandler by the probate court, and the fact that his widow remarried and sold off most of Edmund Chandler’s property without needing any division or quitclaim from other heirs.”
