    3. Hi Polly Hall-Burley Rebecca Simmons is my 7th great aunt. I have her husband as Benjamin Soule, the brother of the John Soule that you have. I have John married to Esther Nash. 3. Hi Richard, My information on that generation comes from the Mayflower through 5 Generations books .... I have as follows: John Soule born 1632 Plymouth Mass, died 14 Nov 1707 Duxbury Mass m Rebecca Simmons about 1654 Duxbury Mass This Rebecca died about 1668 This John and Rebecca had at least 12 children including (and this is where you might be confused): Rebecca James Sarah Rachel Aaron Benjamin Moses Zacariah John Joseph Josiah Joshua I hope this helps - I'm sure one of the list scholars could provide more clarification. And it's always possible that I have it wrong. Regards, Polly Hall-Burley On Jun 7, 2008, at 6:11 AM, Richard Hayes wrote: > Hi Polly Hall-Burley > > Rebecca Simmons is my 7th great aunt. 3. I suggest you contact Genealogy societies around the area in Michigan where Samuel White Soule died. US GenWeb <http://www.usgenweb.org/> can be a big help and will usually give you a genealogy society address. In desperation, I have put the person's name in Google search engine and sometimes that will lead to a cemetery listing or better yet a county history. Remember as with all searches it is better to start with yourself and go back when locating documents. You might be surprised to learn there is a marriage license or probate record that will give parent connections. I always check the family trees that have been posted on Ancestry, RootWeb, etc. No, they can't be used as proof, but they can sometimes give great clues, and also even a connection that may have documentation. Don't despair, usually there is a way around any roadblock. Ruth I'm trying to cut back. Now I only do genealogy in days that end with a "y". 3. If SW Soule is a problem have you tried to shoot up the Lucille A. Soule line to see where she comes back in. I'd bet you have a battleship curve in your family tree. Have you tried the penson records of Alexander Soule? Sometimes the various documents in there will she light beyond the pensonier and sometimes will include a death certifiate for when they passed or if its a widow/'s pension -- presuming he served during the War Between the States. Where is Tyre, Michigan? We will be in Flint this summer for a few days and if close I could check for you. 3. Hi Ernie, When are you going to be in Flint? My sister and I are going to try for a trip up to see Dad in Ubly sometime in July or early August. Tyre is a VERY SMALL community south and east of Bad Axe (about 15 miles or so). Flint is about 90 miles south and a bit west. As far as I'm aware none of the Hall's served and I don't believe Alexander Soule did either. There was a big thing in that part of Michigan where the menfolk would go across to Canada to avoid serving - at least that's the folklore that gets told up there. The women kept the farms while the men went to Canada. I've found no Civil War records for any of these folks (on my Mom's side yes, but not Dad's) Lucy was the daughter of Alexander who was the son of SW, so unless I went up the Blake line (Lucy's mother) I don't see another path - and have frankly never tried that path. Will the Society accept death certificates and census records if that's all that's available? I haven't run across any wills yet either. Although my grandfather left the farm to my dad and I know that my great-grandfather split the farm between 2 of his sons (my grandfather and one of his brothers). So that paperwork should be around somewhere. Lucy Soule also had some land - according to the plat maps. The Soules were members of the local Presbyterian church - and they do not allow access to their records (at least, they haven't the last several times I've been up there - usually once a summer). The clerk's office in Bad Axe is only open to researchers on Wednesday - from 9 - 11 and from 1- 3. And you have to call to make an appointment (in case you need some time there). I only found that out last summer and wasn't going to be there for another Wednesday. I have exhausted the Sanilac Co records (much more available). Bad Axe is the seat for Huron County. The areas up there are also divided into townships and so the land records are available by township. Our farm straddles Austin and Minden townships. The genealogical library in Lansing is fabulous but I didn't know enough when I lived near there to pull copies of all the necessary documents when I had the chance. Polly P.S. On another note, I have copies of both Alexander and William Hall's naturalization paperwork (Alexander came from somewhere in No. Ireland, William was, I believe, born in Canada) - but neither document shows the towns where they were born. Nor do the death certificates. Can't find passage records for them either. Any suggestions? 3. Hi Ernie, You and I have had several emails regarding my Soule line off list. But, for all and sundry to help with, my line is as follows: George Soule m. Mary Bucket John Soule m. Rebecca Simmons Aaron Soule m. Mary Wadsworth Aaron Soule m. Lydia Peterson John Soule m. Abigail White Samuel White Soule m. Elizabeth Alexander Soule m. Susan Blake William Alexander Hall m. Lucille A. Soule James Michael Hall m Helen Mary Wrubel (also sp Helena Mae Wrubel) Michael Garth Hall m. Anne Elizabeth Elderfield Polly Hall-Burley (me) I believe the line is okay via MFLR through John and Abigail. Samuel White Soule was born in MA and died, 1857 in Tyre, Michigan - this is where the branch gets tricky as the records for SW Soule, Alexander and Lucille are difficult to come by - the VRs aren't available and the churches involved either won't or can't give access. So all I have available are death records and census records. I'm plugging away and have just relocated (yet again), this time to Utah and we aren't quite settled yet (still in temporary housing) so all of my documentation is in storage. Well folks I just received my confirmation email from my local historian that the Historian General in Plymouth has approved my membership as a Descendant of Isaac Allerton and wife Fear Brewster. I can now state for certain...... my line is as follows: Isaac Allerton - Fear Brewster Isaac Allerton - Elizabeth Willoughby Frances Allerton - Samuel Travers Elizabeth Travers - John Tarpley Travers Tarpley - Elizabeth Sydnor Frances Tarpley - Rawleigh Chinn Elizabeth Chinn - John Wilson Rawleigh Wilson - Callia Rice John Harvey Wilson - Mary Jane Adams Flora Wilson - Ottis Skiles Sylvia Skiles - Golden Crosnoe (not married) Bertram Skiles - Lorena Meadows ME - Janean Ray Sure has been a long road. I have had my papers bounced around through 5 historians on this. Either passing away, unable to handle the job, or just an interim historian. But anyway.... it's approved. Janean
