    3. Hi Polly Hall-Burley, If Rebecca Simmons died in 1668, when were Moses, Zachariah and John Soule born. I have all of their birth dates after 1668. 3. Hi Richard, Again, my information came from Mayflower through 5 Generations - the dates provided are all "about" - so I cannot answer the question concretely. Perhaps someone else on the list has more conclusive data? Also, Rebecca died "about" 1668 - again, according to Mayflower through 5 Generations. It's also possible that John and Rebecca married before 1654 (as their marriage date is also given as an "about"). Sorry I can't be of more help on these dates. 3. Ruth, I am aware of the Middlesex connection as well as the moving of the headstones, but have not had time to attain copies of documents from Canada. The naturalization paperwork came from the archives in Lansing. I'm in transition and so don't have any of my documentation with me. You can write and ask them to send copies to you. However, as I said, there isn't much information contained in the documents. 1. [MFLR] Samuel White Soule
    2. Ruth E Hall
    3. Polly, you are looking in the wrong place for Samuel's death. He died 26 Jul 1857 in London, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada. His son Alexander brought his headstone to Tyre. Why, I don't know, but Samuel died and is buried in Canada. Also I would like a copy of those naturalization papers you have. We have corresponded before. I am also descended from the Tyre Soule family. The family is listed in the 1851-52 census of upper Canada, Middlesex County Westminster Township Ward 3. (This is present day London,Ontario, on the south bank of the Thames River and traversed by Plingnan's creek. He is a shoemaker. Alexander born in U.S. And David,Riley and Martha born in Canada. Martha is possibly Mary whose gravestone was brought to Soule Cemetary in Michigan. Caroline,Peleg and Eleanor were not in the census but these children were old enough to be on their own. 3. In a few weeks we are planning to be there unless gas prices force us out of going or shortening the trip. This is one of those cases where freelancing historical and genealogical research gets tougher as its usually a cut back unless I'm getting some from section 106 work for Historic Preservation. I checked soliders and sailors list on the nps site and didn't have any luck for service. If you can pretty much show you can't get anything but census then I think they take it but keep track of your efforts so you can show where you've been and show that you've made the effort to find certificates. Land deeds and wills will show the splitting of the farm up which might also tell relations as well. I've been a few times ot the Lansing archives, its a great place for things. Actually, the Flint library is pretty decent too, I've had some success in it for things I couldnt find South for both my New England lines and my wifes northern lines. On your other note, I think the naturalization paper work is a great document to have and possilby could sub for birth certificates for dates and at least a broad place of birth. You may not always be able to find the exact town or even county they were born in anyway. Although check to see fi some of the cities there had city directories that would list the family I got alot of filler information off of Providence, RI city directories including some relationships based on where my great grandfather met my great grandmother as they lived on the same block. He was Irish immigrant and she was from the Eddy family dating back to colonial New England. Try alternate paths. Mom said before she passed that she was sure there was a Mayflower line off dad's Eddy line. I systematically started looking at the most likely branches and in fact found it on what I thought was the least likely branch but it went back not only to Richard Warren but also to Roger Williams though the Sayles. Made mom and dad something like 9th cousins which is suprising since he thought he had nothign back that far -- unfortunatly Mom never knew. 3. It may be the way that the family spelled it but is it the way that the census enumerator or the local minister spelled it? Spelling of names has only been standardized since the early 20th century; even William Shakespeare spelled his name several different ways in his own will. Don't disregard information because the names are not spelled the way that you think they should be spelled.
