I am looking for a transcription of the will of Samuel Brewster, b. c. 1697, son of William Brewster and Patience Read, of Lebanon, CT. My questions concern Samuel, his son, Samuel, b. 1729 and his grandson, Samuel, b. c. 1750. Someone had mentioned to me that the elder Samuel's will made curious reference to his son Samuel's children, from which it might be inferred that some of them were not legitimate. In this will Samuel left the double share which would ordinarily have gone to son Samuel to grandson Samuel. Son Samuel was a grantee in 1760 at Cornwallis, Kings Co., Nova Scotia. The grandson did not accompany his father from CT, but remained in Lebanon. At the death of the elder Samuel, son Samuel did receive his share and the grandson received nothing. All this is gleaned from others, and I would like to read the wording of the will, if anyone is willing to share. Recent findings in New Brunswick have clarified the marriage and death of son Samuel's son, Alexander, from whom I descend. Straightening out the family of son Samuel has been the last brick wall in my work, so that I now have every ancestor back to the immigrant except for those wives for whom no maiden name is available. It has taken me more than 50 years. Joanne Hunt Litchfield, NH

Hi, There was a Samuel Starr, born about 1641 in Plymouth Colony who married Hannah Brewster whose grandfather was the Mayflower passenger and elder of the Plymouth Church, William Brewster. According to the Brewster MFIP he was the son of Dr. Thomas and Rachel Starr and grandson of Dr. Comfort Starr of Boston (Brewster MFIP p. 23). If this is your Samuel, he would not himself be a Mayflower passenger, but his wife was descended from one, and this Samuel was a distinguished man in his own right and the son and grandson of distinguished men. While born in Plymouth Colony, this Samuel lived his adult life in New London, CT. Do you have some more information to confirm whether this is your Samuel?

I've been sitting on the sidelines observing the activity & noticed Samuel STARR's name come up. Would he be one of these Mayflower Settlers? Is there more info that someone could share with me, either thru this list or privately? We have a STAR/STARR/STARNS/STARNES that we haven't quite identified yet...the timing is almost right to have been one. STARNES is the present-day spelling, changed through many years of enumerators, translations of script, etc. We're not 'wannabees'...we're just trying to tie up some loose ends and would appreciate any help. Hi Ruy, I just did a swing thru mid coastal Maine looking for Reeds. In Bucksport, Hancock, Me., in the Riverview Cemetary in North Bucksport (almost to the Orrington line) I found an found an Eleanor B. Chipman married to my g. g. uncle, Capt. Littleton Reed. As there is only one date on all the stones I take it as the death date, but could be wrong. So--I think she died Oct. 29, 1894 at 74 yrs.. In the same cemetary there is another Chipman plot that has Charles B. Chipman (broken sunk stone-no date), his wife Marline July 9, 1889 at 56 yrs.. There follows some of their children and then Silvanus 9/27/1872 86yrs. & wife Sarah 1/21/1865 72yrs. & some of their children (no Deborahs at all) and Asenath 7/14/1903, 83yrs. No wife. It is just a fluke I got this batch as they were on page I copied (of Reeds) There could well be more Chipmans there . I got my info from the Library in Bucksport--they have a binder of the cemetaries in Bucksport and the burials there. The phone # for that particular cemetary assn. is 207-469-7074, Chris Johnson. I hope this may help--at least you know where some of the Chipmans went! Jan Wilson
Joe, I haven't packed up my "TAG" yet, so I did a quick check on this. This is what it says (Vol. 23, January 1952): p. 9 "It is difficult to determine how many of the seventeen children born to John Fullerton belonged to the first wife, Ruth (Sampson), but we have found at least eight of whom we can be sure. Possibly another was a (now on p. 10) Stephen Fullerton who married Susannah White of Marshfield, daughter of John White as shown by disposition of her father's estate in a deed dated Dec. 9, 1761 [Plymouth Deeds 50:256], and if so born before 1740 and hence a son by Ruth Sampson"..... "However, Boston Vital records show a Stephen Fullerton born Sept. 19, 1731 to William [2] Fullerton and Mary Crowell, and he could have been this nephew of John Fullerton of Marshfield. In a deed he is called 'chairmaker, of Boston.' No further records of this Stephen and his wife have been found in Boston or Marshfield." There is quite bit more on this family, including some info on the 8 children born to Ruth Sampson, but it's too much to transcribe. If you want to send me a snail mail address (privately), I'll copy the pages and mail them to you. The entire article "The Early Sampsons" by Mrs. John E. Barclay, is only 11 pages long - 6 copies. It's been awhile since we corresponded on our Hill line. As to the above, the John Alden 5 generation volume, 16:1:409 lists Sephen Fullerton, who m. Susannah White, as the "possible" son of John Fullerton & Ruth Samson4 (Mercy Standish3, Sarah2 Alden, John1) and states "see TAG 28:9". No further info is given. Perhaps someone on the list has the above mentioned article in TAG. Susan E. Roser www.rootsweb.com/~canms/canada.html

Hello: That birth date is given in Henry Wyles Cushman, "Historical and Biographical Genealogy of the Cushmans: The Descendants of Robert Cushman, the Puritan, From the year 1617 to 1855." (Boston: Little, Brown, 1855) p 171 Her father, Josiah, is described as being "of Plympton" which I assume would be the likely birth place. By the way, describing Robert Cushman as a Puritan, as the book title does, I believe is in error. Pilgrim yes, Puritan no. Apologies to everyone if this is a duplicate message. I first sent it a few days ago when my server was having problems with e-mail and it appeared to me that this message had not been received. Cheers, Wilfred

Rick asked: One thing you did not mention was the cost associated with obtaining record copies from this source. Is there a cost? I am sorry, but I can't say what they charge. When I wrote in 1999 to the Personel Record Center I only asked for a date of death, not realizing they would still have the whole file. They sent me the whole file, without a bill at all. Helen

Hi List, Has there been and update to the info about George Soule and Mary Beckett? Is there any documented dates for Mary Beckett's birth and marriage to George Soule? Has anyone proved George Soule ancestory yet? I know there was a lot of speculation about that info. I have their info from the Vol 3 of the Silver Books. Does the pink books have anything new or ?? I am looking for information on Kezia the daughter of Pelatiah PHINNEY and Mercy WASHBURN. She was born 1753. I am especially interested in any marriage information. On my John ALDEN line I have John ALDEN, son of John ALDEN & Rebecca Nightingale, who married a Kezia or Keziah (his 4th wife) and they had a son named Jonathan Phinney ALDEN. This Kezia is listed variously as MORE or HOLMES, which may be previous marriages. She is listed as born between 1754 and 1765. I know this is a long shot, but don't want to overlook the possibility of a connection. I would appreciate any information or suggestions. Thanks, Sharon
