I know the Ancestral files are held in low esteem by some, but as a believer in "choice in genealogy" I always look there first. But before something gets started--I really do use the Ancestral files as probably all of us do for leads, and I have the deepest respect and gratitude for the work of the LDS volunteers and the magnificent resources of the Family History Library which they make available freely to all.
I am a descendant of Resolved White and Judith Vassell, but this is the first news I have heard that the origins of William White had been found. Where did you find this info? Joanne Hunt Litchfield, NH

Cathy, Terrific subjects. Wish I were there to take your course. You are the kind of teacher who stimulates her students. Keep up the good work! Hugh Busey
Hi All, I am back from my trip to Plymouth and what a great experience. We visited Plymouth Plantation, the Mayflower, the Rock, Brewster Park, Jenney Grist Mill , Buriel Hill, and the Mayflower Society House. The Mayflower Society House was just beautiful and we should all be very proud of it. At Brewster Park I saw the momument dedicated to Samuel & John Eddy of whom I'm descended and we stayed at the Zachariah Eddy B&B in Middleboro and also visited the Eddy Homestead in Middleboro. It sure all brought a great sense of history to me to be walking on the land that my ancestors did. Thank-you for all your suggestions as to what to see. We spent the week there and enjoyed every minute of it. Judi(Myles Standish,John Alden,Samuel Eddy.)

Vol 11, part 2 (Edward Doty silver book) [p 21] "Mehetable and Ebenezer Wormall appear to have been too old to have been the children of Josiah and Patience (Sherman) Wormall, as they are sometimes listed: they are more probably the sister and brother of Josiah Wormall. Note that Mehetable and Ebenezer are not mentioned in Josiah's will." [p20] Josiah Wormall's parents are given as "Josiah and Remember (BROWN) WORMALL." By the way, while looking for the WORMALLs in my copy of the book I discovered the final surname in the index is WOOD, the WORMALLs aren't there. Do I have a defective copy or is this the case for every copy? Wilfred
I am wondering where Mehitable WORMALL, wife of Christopher WADSWORTH ended up. According to a MD article (MD 43:156) in 1993, Mehitable, who had been thought to be the daughter of Josiah Wormall and Patience Sherman, was being considered by Peter B. Hill to be instead the dau. of an older Josiah Wormall and Remember Browne in the then current Doty MFIP. Would someone who has the Doty silver book through Desire which was published after 1993 be willing to check whether Mehitabel is now listed as a daughter of Josiah and Patience (SHERMAN) WORMALL? Thanks. Harlow
My Thomas STARR had a quirky sense of humor when naming his children: Jehosaphat Comfort Nostrength Moregift William Mercy Constant Suretrust Thomas Standwell TruthShallPrevayl Joyfoole Constante Anne Mary Beloved I wish I had been a fly on their wall during the name selections! They cause some fun speculations... Was "Jehosaphat!" the first word out of Mom's mouth after a long labor?! Was "Nostrength" a sickly baby? Can you imagine standing in the doorway and calling "TruthShallPrevayyyyyyyyl! Dinner's ready!" ? No wonder my ancestor, Thomas's son Comfort, named his children plain names! And Bette, will transcripts of your talk be available? I descend from the ALDEN/MULLINS line and won't be at the Fuller Family Association dinner, but I would really like to read the talk you are giving! Lynn
Hi! First, my thanks to all who helped last year with suggestions on Plymouth Colony books and information about our ancestors. Your contributions helped to make our Early American History course come alive. My sons thoroughly enjoyed examining the lives of their ancestors and the roles that they played in shaping Plymouth Colony (or not in some cases). Currently, I am investigating the role of the different religious groups and the role that they played in the shaping of the colony. I am particularly interested in the following groups: 1. Puritans 2. Quakers 3. The Wampanoag tribe 4. Familists 5. Baptists 6. Separatists 7. Anglicans 8. Any other group not listed here. We are looking for any laws made concerning religion, any punishments concerning religion and why these punishments were given, how these punishments were received by those accused and by those in the community, the belief systems of the groups, why different churches/religious groups were formed in the colony, how the belief systems of the various groups effected their social structure/family life, etc. Any info is greatly appreciated. Our Mayflower ancestors are Richard Warren and Elizabeth (through Elizabeth) and Elizabeth Tilley and John Howland (through both Desire and Hope). Any info regarding our ancestors, especially as it pertains to the above research, is also welcome. Any help would be greatly appreciated. IHG, Cathy Boyle
For Bette Bradway's talk next Saturday...my favorite is "Truth-Shall-Prevayel" Starr, born 19 December 1604 in Ashford, Kent, England. Reference "Early Starrs in Kent & New England", Hosea Starr Ballou, 1944, pg 25 Quote him...quote me...I don't care, but I wish I could be there to hear your talk to the Fullers, because I have several Fuller lines. Marty Irons PS: Her siblings included Joyfoole, Constant, Comfort, No Strength, Moregifte, Mercy, Standwell and Beloved. PPS: No Strength only lived about 2-1/2 months.
Question! I am scheduled to speak at the Mayflower Fuller Family Assoc. meeting in Plymouth next Saturday evening. I am putting together something that I hope will be humorous, because there is nothing worse than an after dinner speaker who puts everyone to sleep! Would anyone who posted these odd names and comments mind if I used some of them in my talk????? If agreeable to my using them, should I give you credit or let you remain anonymous? Respond DIRECTLY and PRIVATELY, please. Let's not clutter up the list with things like that.... With thanks, Bette Bradway

And don't forget Thankful Gay, (whose 5 ggrandfather was William White),who married John Musick, thus becoming Thankful Musick.......not much of that around today! Their daughter was Easter Musick! It's true, so help me!!
I have Anna Bastard (her father was Joseph Bastard) in my Rumsey line. Anna is the g-grandmother of Jeremiah Rumsey who m. Asenath Doud, and she is from the Mayflower line. And my cousin has Thankful Hooker! TTYS, Dawn Green
Off topic (no known Mayflower link), but I'm going to say it and then butt out... My all-time favorite is Preserved Fish. Bette Bradway
Wow, this discussion sounds more like it's about Dr. Seuss than the Mayflower! There are of course many men and women in all of our Mayflower heritages with names like Barzilla (female) or Barzillai (male), Theophilus and Eliphalet and Jerusha and Ozias. Then there are those names that the first/last combo just kind of rolls off the tongue or makes us laugh -- "Puella Hussey" or "Mehitable Handy Noonan." There's also Yelverton Crowell and Camp Addams and Thankful Watrous and Liberty Bartlett -- no Mayflower connections (yet...I don't think...are there??), but cool names nonetheless! However, the unusually named Mayflower descendant who is nearest and dearest to my heart is my own late father, Cassius Bartlett Barnes, Jr., descendant of Hopkins and Brewster, who was the last in a long line of men named "Cassius" in our family. To distinguish from his father, my Dad was called by his middle name as a child, and so his full first/middle/last name was known to the other kids. Unfortunately for my poor Dad, the schoolyard rhyming possibilities for the name "Cassius Bartlett" are quite obvious -- and thus my brother (his only son) is named Tom! :-) Kathy Fenton Virginia Beach, VA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I am accustomed to hearing malicious falsehoods about myself...but I think I have a right to object to libelous statements about my dog." -- Franklin D.
