    3. Hello, I am working on newly-discovered ancestor Thomas Rogers. I have the Silver Book II and Great Migration Begins Vol III which covers Rogers and his family. I am delighted to discover that his wife and their parents have been identified since the printing of the Silver Vol II. I found information on them in the GMB. Is there a source of more information on the parents of Thomas and Alice (Cosford) Rogers? ( I only have their names). I understand that Clifford Stott has reported on the English origin of Thomas Rogers in The Genealogist . Does anyone have a copy of it? I would appreciate any help. Thanks! I have no parents (or > siblings) for her. Martha - I do not have Ann's parents either (none are given in The Great Migration Begins) but there are some interesting Coopers in that time and place. Ephraim's brother Nathaniel m. 1st 25-Dec-1635 Plymouth (PCR 1:35) Lydia Cooper, d. 23-Sep-1673 Plymouth (Elijah Hayward, "Plymouth Colony Records" in NEHGR 9 [1855]:313-18, p. 317), and Lydia is mentioned (as "my sister Lydia Morton") in the will of her brother John Cooper (Plymouth Colony Probate Records, 4:2:59, 124), who came in 1634 and removed to Barnstable in 1639. There was a Cooper family in England connected to Mayflower passengers - see Robert Leigh Ward, "English Ancestry of Seven Mayflower Passengers: Tilley, Sampson and Cooper" in TAG, 52 [1976]:198-208. Stratton discusses the possibility that John and Lydia might be related to "the Cooper family of Henlow, Bedfordshire, allied with the Sampson and Tilley families," and suggests further research - see Eugene A. Stratton, "Plymouth Colony, Its History and People, 1620-1691," (Salt Lake City, UT: Ancestry Publishing, 1986) pp. 273-74. I have no evidence that Ann was connected with this Cooper family, but I think it deserves further investigation. Dale H. 2. John -- Your Ezekiel Delano (b. 1731) is in generation #6 of the verified lineage of Myles Standish for which I paid my $5. (He does appear in Generation #5 on the verified lineages I have from Mayflower passengers Samson and Alden.) One of the sources cited for him (and others) on those verified lineages from the GSMD is the "Delano Gen." -- cited in that way. Are you aware that the original 1899 Delano genealogy (or GHAAHD) is being updated by Muriel Curtis Cushing, bringing the various lines shown in that original book down to the present day, providing primary sources wherever possible? Perhaps someone has already contributed information to her, with more primary sources as documentation, that will aid you in proving your Mayflower lines. (If not, perhaps you can help her in compiling the update by contributing any primary source information you have discovered for your more recent Delano ancestors.) Muriel's email address is flash1620@comcast.net. Good luck. 3. Hi everyone. It is my understanding that The Genealogy History & Alliances of the American House of Delano (1899) is accepted as a source for membership. I will, of course, obtain more primary sources where I am able, but for a few places, I need to reference this book. May I assume the abbreviation for the application is GHAAHD:page? Clarifications or corrections are welcome! I have learned assuming is dangerous! I need the GHAAHD to prove 7 lines through Mullins, Alden, Samson, and Doty. I have already paid my $5 and determined that no one has ever pursued my line past the 5 generations yet (which is really hard to believe, but I trust the researchers who told me so)! The line (backwards from me) is: John L. Haldane, (me) Marian Jennie Jordan, 1928-1995 Roy Edwin Jordan, 1901-1980 Clara Florena Gatchell, 1882-1963 Clara Florena Smith, 1859-1882 Julia Asenath Delano, 1840- ?? 1. [MFLR] Eaton ancestor help
    2. Hello lister, I'm lookoing for help with a line of mine. The name is John B. Eaton born about 1825 in Massachusetts. He married Abigail Elizabeth Smith in New York and they had two sons George I. and Wilfred Bruce Eaton. George was born 1854 in New York and Wilfred was born 15 April 1860 in New York. Both in the 1910 census stated that their father was bor in Massachusetts and mother born in New York. On their death cert. George's wife said his father and mother both born in New York while Wilfred's wife said that his father was born in Vermont and mother born in New York. My question is since the father, John B. Eaton was born in Massachusetts is he descendant of Frances Eaton of the Mayflower? Any help will be most appreciated. Bob Trapp

Dianne and Dale have dealt with the identity of Peter Cooper and the question of Rowley, Essex, MA. Three women who sailed on the Mayflower are known to have been pregnant as far as I know: Elizabeth Hopkins had Oceanus at sea, and he died during the first year; Susanna White had Peregrine after the Mayflower had reached Cape Cod, but before the group settled at Plymouth; Mary Allerton died in childbirth and her child was not born alive.

Sanborn, Jr., Melinde Lutz Sanborn, ©2001 " On 13 April 1635, "Peter Cooper", aged 28, was enrolled at London as a passenger on the Susan & Ellen [Hotten 59]. Under the comments section it says he has been identified as the man of the same name who appeared in Rowley by 1641, but there are reasons to doubt this conclusion......no record for Peter Cooper in New Eng. for the years between 1635-1641.....the passenger of 1635 was already 28, and he would have been 34 when the first child was born, and most of the early settlers of Rowley came between 1638-39. They go on to say that while the 1635 man and the Rowley man might be the same is not impossible, it is far from certain. Hope this helps! Dianne

    3. This may be somewhat off-topic, and I apologize ahead of time if it is, but I had heard on I believe an A&E presentation that as a cadet, Hiram Ulysses Grant appeared before the army recorder and when he was asked to state his name for the record he said Hiram Ulysses Grant. The recorder in error thought he said "I am Ulysses S. Grant" and recorded it that way. Rather than making waves the very first day to correct this error, Ulysses decided to keep his name the way the army recorded it.

    2. Marty Irons
    3. U. S. Grant's Mayflower lineage to Richard Warren of the Mayflower is given very clearly on pp 37-39 of "Ancestors of the American Presidents", by Gary Boyd Roberts, 1995. An abbreviated form of the same is on pg 336. This is an excellent book for finding relationships to US Presidents. I highly recommend it. It is published in cooperation with the New England Historic Genealogical Society, Boston, Mass. I never knew I was related to any US President until I bought this book and spotted many of my early New England ancestors in it as also being ancestors of many US Presidents. Exciting! Marty Irons PS: For what it's worth, Gary Boyd Roberts shows U. S. Grant's original name as Hiram Ulysses Grant. Presidents Ford and Clinton also changed their names.

    3. Dear Ms. Stowell, You contactacted me today regarding knowledge of the descendants of Ulysses S. Grant as part of a project that you are working on. You had seen my database on the internet regarding his ancestry. (He is a distant cousin of mine.) But your call took me by surprise, and I didn't have my sources readily available. What is not shown in my internet GEDCOM database, and what I did not mention to you is that General Ulysses S. Grant is a descendant of Mayflower Pilgrim, Richard Warren through his grandfather Noah Grant, Jr. and his great grandmother, Susanna (DELANO) Grant, born Dartmouth (recorded Tolland CT) 23 Jun 1724; died Coventry CT poss. 16 Aug 1806; married Tolland, CT 5 Nov 1746 Capt. Noah GRANT, b. "Grantt's Hill" Tolland 12 July 1718, son of Noah and Matha (Huntington) Grant. Some of the proof for the Mayflower lineage of Ulysses S. Grant and his descendants through his grandfather Noah GRANT, born 23 June 1748, back to Mayflower Pilgrim, Richard Warren can be found in the book PHILIP DELANO OF THE FORTUNE by Muriel Curtis Cushing (General Society of Mayflower Descendants, 1999). See also Mayflower Families to Five Generations, volume 18, parts 1 & 3. I'm placing a copy of this email on the MAYFLOWER email forum in case there are descendants of General Grant who might want to make contact with you to provide information for your project..
