    1. [MFLR] 1880 Census
    2. I have just found all kinds of wonderful stuff on there...two sets my great-great grandparents and the names of all of my great-grandparents' brothers and sisters! I printed the stuff out because, if they decide to yank it, I don't want to be out of luck!

    3. Thank you Ann. Once again we all can be very grateful to the church for the wonderful resources they share with us all. I have owned the 1880 census CD set almost since it came out and have used it a great deal. It was a tremendous effort and accomplishment, and this is not at all meant as a criticism, but anyone using the set, and I assume the online information, should be aware that there are many errors. This was a transcription effort, and we all know that the census can often be very challenging to read. In comparing the extractions to images of the actual pages I have found many understandable errors. For instance, once I found the name Hattie transcribed as Hallie. When I looked at an image of the actual page I saw that the line which was supposed to cross the Ts in Hattie was drawn above them, and it did in fact look like Hallie. I checked the online census, and the same error is found there, so I assume the online information is the same as what is found in the CD set. I have seen errors like that very often in this set--it's probably actually a very small percentage of the transcriptions, and of course it happens in other indexes as well, but it is possible that when searching one won't find someone who actually is in the census or that some detail is incorrectly transcribed. This is a fantastic resource because one can search any name, not just the head of household. I have found the CD set, which offers more search refinement that the online search, and incidentally is very inexpensive, to be something I use almost every day because of this amazing every name search capability. So again, this is not at all a criticism, but only a caution. This resource is not perfect--not that any is--and one should not take it as the last word. ***-----Original Message----- ***From: hopk4525@bellsouth.net [mailto:hopk4525@bellsouth.net] ***Sent: Wednesday, October 23, 2002 3:36 PM ***To: MAYFLOWER-L@rootsweb.com ***Subject: [MFLR] Fw: [MSFRANKL-L] LDS Family Search (The Mormon Site) has ***put 1880 Index online! *** *** *** *** *** Great news folks! 3. I confess at the outset that this message is not genealogically related, and I hope I won't be punished. However if someone could fill in the blanks to this little ditty I would appreciate it! 3. I have just learned of a direct connect to John Alden and Priscilla Mullins and am, needless to say, thrilled. Of course, now I have to fully document all for a few generations to make sure it "sticks." If so, I will now have 4 Mayflowers (so far). Here are the lines I am hoping will hold up upon further scrutiny. If anyone else is interested and happens to be searching these families also, I would love to hear from you to compare notes: John Alden / Priscilla Mullins Elizabeth Alden / William Pabodie Rebecca Pabodie / William Southworth Samuel Southworth / Abigail (Welles) Mary Southworth / Caleb Tomlinson Samuel Tomlinson / ____ _____ Cyrus Burton Tomlinson / Mary ___ Maria Tomlinson / Stephen Denison Mary Denison / William Carlton Jones Frederick Carlton Jones / Nellie Jane Smith Frederick William Jones / Lena H. Baker Wallace Frederick Jones / Marydale Dearth Wendy

    1. [MFLR] Histories of Bridgewater, Hingham, Marshfield - Volunteers Needed
    2. Dale H Cook
    3. I have resumed CJ McNew's work of posting online versions of Mitchell's "History of Bridgewater," Lincoln et al.'s "History of Hingham" and Richards' "History of Marshfield." Although these are all old works, and in places have been superseded by later research, they can still prove useful to Mayflower researchers who are just starting on a new family line. I have some people already helping with these projects, but could definitely use more volunteer transcribers and proofreaders. If you have been a volunteer for one of these projects in the past, (and perhaps have transcribed material that has not yet been posted), or if you are new to the projects and would like to volunteer, I would appreciate hearing from you. I have reorganized the entry pages for all three to make it easier to see which parts of each project need work. I am also in the process of converting the already-transcribed pages of each to a new format which resembles the printed pages. To see the state of each project visit: Nahum Mitchell - "History of the Early Settlement of Bridgewater..." - http://www.rootsweb.com/~mabridge/mitchell/contents.html George Lincoln, et. al. - "History of Hingham" - http://www.rootsweb.com/~mahingha/history/families.html Lysander Richards - "History of Marshfield" - http://www.rootsweb.com/~macmarsh/richards/contents.html Dale H. Surnames: Southard Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/5540/FO.2ADI/180 Message Board Post: My family came on either the Mayflower or the ship Anne, and landed at Plymouth, Massachusetts. I do know that the family never left the New England area. A group of them finally settling first in Portland, ME, and more recently (in the last 100 years or so) in the Bath area of Maine. I am doing this on my own, since I was adopted. Five years ago I found out that my birthparents were/are Charles (desc.) and Marjorie Brown~Southard. 35+ years ago, after remarrige her name became St.Pierre. So, the information that I have is rather sketchy, but I'm sure that you can understand why this is so important to me. Any help/information that you can send me via email would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at; mysticalkat@earthlink.net Thank all so much for any help that you can give me.
