I have my papers in for the Society! Judith Elfring from the John Howland Society graciously sent me copies of the Papers that I had sent to join that group. Can you imagine that I join the John Howland Society and didn't do the Mayflower Society at the same time. Not very smart! I'll be watching anxiously to see if I pass. Priscilla

Dear: Fellow Mayflower members. I have started a Francis Cooke Society, I had a MICR chat page. But it was to hard for the members to access. So I have started a new site, for the descendants of Francis Cooke. And other early New England ancestry. So please bear with me, I am continually working on new ideas for this society. And other plans are implemented for the future. It is a slow process. If any body has any ideas, contact me. As I am the moderator for the group. Yours Truly, J. Older browsers may not be able to read the PHP pages. Netscape 7 and Internet Explorer 6 can handle them. On my machine IE6 displays Caleb's pages in an Old English font, which I find annoying, but Netscape 7 displays them in my default serif font. Dale H. Betty, V19, p1 of TR Silver Book says: "primary evidence gathered from Dutch and New England sources establishes that Thomas Rogers had a wife named Alice who survived him and at least four children; Joseph, John, Elizabeth and Margaret, prob. born in that order". A son Thomas and possibly a son Richard were also born prior to 1600 but both died within a year of their baptism. Joseph and John mentioned above would have been too young to have a son James b. in 1615. Joseph did have a son James but he was born in 1644. Lorin Lorin D. I only recently began my search. I live in the Minford-Sciotoville area and all of my ancestors as well as my husband's settled in this area and most descendants are still here. I will try to find the information you are wanting next week. I really wish I could go down to the library right now, but I have other plans. I'll get back to you asap. Barb

I have been reading your replys to Vic Varis. Am I right to assume that you live in the Portsmouth/Greenup area? I plan a trip in May and wonder if you have any idea where Abel and Seth are buried. I would love to be able to find their grave sites. I am trying to prove my lineage through the Mayflower Society. I would be happy to share my findings with you. Linda Berger Centerville, Ohio

I have a number of places to look though. In scanning my notes, I did see Orphena A. Searls who was a Sciotoville Postmaster December 21, 1899. Is there any connection there? Wyatt Chamberlin was my gggreat-grandfather. In reading more last night, I discovered that there were many Marys who were nicknamed Polly. I wonder if it's like Peg being a nickname for Margaret or Bill for William. Yes, I still live in the area. I'm about two miles or less south of Dan White hollow. There's a White cemetery in Minford that has several of the pioneer White's graves. In our library we have a book that lists the names on tombstones for all of the known cemeteries in Scioto County. I'll check that out next week. I'd love to compare notes on the Whites with you. We also have a White Family history in the local genealogical area of the library. I, too, am trying to make the Mayflower connection and Abel and Seth are the stumbling blocks. I'm finding that there were many Abel Whites. I found one reference on a Woodstock, CT website that had a marriage record for Abel White m. Rebecca Solace, Jan. 26, 1778 in Woodstock, CT. This was listed under the 1st Congregational Church of Woodstock. Another thing that might help you...Scioto County was formed from part of Adams County and Washington County. You might try looking on the Adams County website. I was told that when looking for courthouse records dated before what Portsmouth has can be found at West Union. I found a reference for Anson Chamberlin for property sold as listed in Belpre, Washington County. Adams is west of Scioto, Washington was originally the eastern part of Scioto all the way to Marietta, I think. I'll get back to you next week about the Searls-White information. Thanks for writing.

That is useful info. We were in Portsmouth a few days last summer. I have part of that info--may even have the first ref from the will book, but it is buried in the 100's of pages of stuff we copied and scanned. I'm not certain that Daniel White that stood in for the marriage was Abel's son-- maybe a nephew or brother instead. I think they all show up on the 1890 census at Addison, Steuben County, NY where Abel was one of the pioneering fathers of the community. Seth was there too-- though there are a few Seths in the family I think, so its not too clear to me which is which for sure. Do you see Rachel White appear anywhere? She married Wyatt Searl. Searls and Whites apparently migrated together to the Scioto-Greenup area about the same time. Am I right to assume you are still living in the area there? We noticed the Dan White Hollow rd I think when we were cruising around the area. If we visit again, and assuming you live in that area, it would be fun to compare notes. I imagine you are from the Mary (Polly) line right? Does anyone that you know of still have anything like Bible records?And-- you haven't run into Abel White's grave site have you? Feel free to email if you want- anytime, Vic & Kathy Varis www.ciurlionis.net/varis vic@psu-xa.org

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FO.2ADI/161.3.1.1.2.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I just posted a reply about finding Abel White's will and his daughter's marriage. I thought I might add more info in case anyone is interested. Daniel, son of Abel, is buried in Minford, OH near the airport off State Route 335. There's a cemetary behind a yellow house which used to be the Sunshine Church of Christ. The new church building is located a few hundred feet north. We even have a Dan White Hollow named for him. Polly, daughter of Abel, sister of Daniel, married Wyatt Chamberlin and both are buried in the Chamberlin Cemetary near Wheelersburg, OH on Route 522 on the old Gleim Farm. There are several tombstones there which were unknown until recent years. Access is not easy. Her marriage record says, "Polly", Abel's will says "Polly", but the tombstone says "Mary". In our family records she is referred to as Mary (Polly). The tombstone also says, born Dec. 31, 1790, died Feb. 20, 1856, 65 years, 1 month, 20 days. The paper I copied for Will Records, Greenup County, Kentucky which is where I found Abel's will and his children listed, also says, "No Records, 1803-1822." I'm still trying to locate Seth. The info I have says he died in Greenupsburg, KY in 1825. If that's so and he was Abel's father, he died two years after Abel.
I haven't received any e-mails that have been sent by people to the Mayflower roots web , com for 3-4 days. I have been trying to set mail controls to block Spam and I am wondering if I somehow deleted myself from the list or unknowingly put a block on the rootswe.com site. Any advice would be appreciated.
