Hello. I have attached a link of Vermont people who were either born or died in Caldonia, Vermont, including Wheelers, Wheatons, Humphrey, Hawkins, Pierce (sp?), and many, many, many more. from the 1800's. If you can not open this link on here, email me at [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) , and I will send you the attachment. It's really awesome. Darlene from Rhode Island

I am happy to receive the clarity as to dates and as I posted to the group a few minutes ago, I apologize profusely for the typo and presentation errors in the proposed Cooke lineage. Not off to a very good start am I? So the 1626 birthdate for Mary is relatively accurate then? I should have simply stated the question more simply (i.e., could Mary have been born earlier and is there any truth to the rumor of a marriage to Francis Tobey, & the 2 children?). She would have had to have been born far earlier for this to be even remotely possible. Cheers! KT

Invitation only? I do believe my lineage to Hopkins is intact (unlike the Cooke lineage) but perhaps I should forget the Jamestown group then? After I go through my data again I will post but if my memory serves me well I believe I have more than Hopkins connecting our family to Jamestown. Among the grandfather's somewhere are the Lord de la Warr's: Thomas West (1577-1602) (please don't quote me on these dates yet!); his son Governor Francis West (1590-1634); his son Francis II West (1605-1696). I believe the Gov Francis one was instrumental at Jamestown but again don't quote me yet!

In addition I had intended to put question marks after Mary Cooke’s birth date & Francis Tobey's death date, which did not help my presentation. Should have read as follows: Francis (MP) Cooke, bef 1583-1663 (m.Hester Mahieu, abt. 1585-1666) Daughter, Mary Cooke, 1626?-1713 (m. Francis Tobey, 1602-1635?) Son, Thomas Tobey, 1625-1714 (m. Martha Knott, b. 1629) Son, Gershom Tobey, b. 1672 (m. Mehitable Fish, 1680-1720) Daughter, Jerusha Tobey, 1698-1736 (m. Seth Pope, 1701-1796) Daughter, Elizabeth Pope, b. 1721 (m. Joshua Finney, 1708-1742) Son, John Finney, 1749-1826 (m. Elizabeth Ward, 1749-1826) Son, Joshua Finney, 1771-1857 (m. Nancy Richardson, 1780-1856) Daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Polly” Finney, b. 1797 (m. Lewis Street, b. 1805) Son, Matthew Dawson Street, 1851-1920 (m. Margaret Sarah Berry, 1857-1921) Son, Manley Floyd Street, 1887-1973 (m. Vera Bucholtz, 1892-1988) Daughter, "Confidential" Street m. "Confidential" West Living Street West descendants Yes, I have much conflicting information in my files on the dates & relationships surrounding Francis (MP) Cooke, Hester, and their daughter, Mary Cooke from several different sources. I should have phrased the message correctly in that the dates I was quoting were potentially questionable. I thought possibly that my dates involving the Cooke family were incorrect and thus posted them for correction should anyone have alternative dates; especially since this is such a well-known line. Is Mary Cooke's birth date correct at abt 1626? Is her death date correct at 1714? I presume it is correct that her father Francis was born sometime between 1577-1583, and his wife Hester born abt 1585, with a marriage date of June 30, 1603? Mary's birth appears quite late compared with the one's I have for her siblings: born about 23 years after marriage and with Hester abt age 41 and Francis abt age 49 at the time of her birth. I thought there might be a possibility that she was born far ear! lier. You are correct that my dates for Mary as relates to a marriage to Francis Tobey & the dates for the children do not make sense as written. Where does the persistent idea come from that she married a Francis Tobey and had two children, Thomas Tobey & Ruth Tobey? Just another internet fueled rumor? With all of you knowing this line so well I wanted to make certain that the early Cooke family dates I have are correct, and whether or not the lineage proposed, especially regarding Mary Cooke and Francis Tobey, could be possible. Thank you so much for all of your time. I will be careful to quadruple check my dates and make myself more clear from here on out. Sorry if I caused anyone any inconvenience. Cheers! KT

First of all, you must have an invitation from a member to submit an application. Then the cost is, or was as of last year, $300. Plus, if I remember correctly, there is a rather narrow window in which to respond, 3 months I think. I checked into this because I'm a Stephen Hopkins descendant and managed to find a member who invited me. But I decided not to pursue it when I found out how much it would cost. Karen Sullivan

To my great surprise I have now ended up with probable connections to Cooke/Stephen Hopkins/ Elizabeth Fisher Hopkins/Howland/Tilley/and Warren (includes both my paternal and maternal lines). I've decided for my children's sake and future generations to finish off applications to the Mayflower Society, and other applicable organizations, such as Jamestown, DAR, etc. so they will not have to go through the difficulties. I really am in need of help and want to satisfy myself that the lineages are reasonably accurate before sending in formal applications. It is my hope that you can point out any obvious or glaring inaccuracies or serious questions. So, if you don't mind I will begin in alphabetical order and every so often send in a proposed lineage for you all to look over. At the same time I am very willing to share anything from my own research that may help others. So fire away! Here is the proposed Francis Cooke line: Francis (MP) Cooke, bef 1583-1663 (m.Hester Mahieu, abt. 1585-1666) Mary Cooke, 1626-1713 (m. Francis Tobey, 1602-1635) Thomas Tobey, 1625-1714 (m. I am most certain about the more recent ancestors (Joshua Finney m. Nancy Richardson) on down as I have fairly good-excellent validation as to these relationships. It is the earlier relationships that are difficult and I would like to look into any and all questions raised from those of you who are interested so that I might get my research in the best possible shape. Joan, Meant to post this is in my first reply. This is the first Wheeler book to look for: Wheeler, Henry Warren. Dear Joan Some one may have the answers to hand for you. If not, you should try to find, either through interlibraty loan in California or through local or state genealogy societies one of the several Wheeler family genealogies. The older versions may be available as didigtal pages through your local library's HeritageQuest subscription. Check with them first. Also, don't forget to google. A comprehensive update to the original Wheeler Family work is available in manuscript at the Concord Free Public Libary, Concord MA. Within the next year, it will be featured on a dedicated page at the CFPL web-site. In the meantime, access the Special Collection page and send inquiries to that project c/or Leslie Perrin Wilson, Special Collection Director. Note also, that if you search the NEHGS revised library catalog for Wheeler Family as title you'll get 6 listings. But if you search using Wheeler family by key word, you get 13 pages of listings! I'll print out your detail and take it with me on my next rounds. But in the meantime, those ideas above are some things you can do. As well as post this query over on the Wheeler Discusion Boards! I'm hoping someone on the Mayflower list an help with my search. The line in question starts with WIlliam WHITE and his wife Susannah. It runs like this: Resolved WHITE and Judith VASSALL Anna WHITE and John HAYWARD Mary HAYWARD and John WILLARD Mercy WILLARD and William WHEELER Willard/William (name changed from Willard to William when his older brother William died)WHEELER and Grace WOOD William WHEELER and Elizabeth COOK This is the point things get confusing - Which William is the son of William and Elizabeth? My gggrandmother, Abigail Wheeler b. 10 Mar 1816 Waitsfield, Washington Co., VT was the dau. of William WHEELER and Lucy (Palmer). (I have Abigail's birth record. Abigail Wheeler dau. of William & Lucy). Lucy 2nd married Elijah Grandy in 1836. The "History of Waitsfield," gives William Wheeler the birth date of 17 Sep 1791 in Windsor, VT. His death date is bef 20 Apr 1822, Waitsfield, VT. and lists one of his ch. Lucy. I have a copy of a birth record for William Wheeler, Jr. b. on that date Windsor VT, son of William Wheeler and Elizabeth ( all of their children are listed in the record). However, there is another William Wheeler - William Wheeler of Fayston, Washington Co., Vermont d. 9 Oct 1845 married Sophia Smith 17 Aug 1818 Waitsfield, Washington Co., VT The History of New Ipswich, NH, p 693, also gives this William the birth date of Sep 17, 1791, and does not mention a marriage to Lucy, only Sophia. Was this William the son of William and Elizabeth of Windsor, VT, or was my William the son born that date? I have a copy of the Will of William Wheeler who died bef 20 Apr 1822 in Washington Co., VT. The admin of this will was to go to Lucy, his widow, but she refused and admin went to William Wheeler, but does not mention his relationship to the deceased William. I have not found a son named William for William and Lucy. I have not been able to locate a marriage record for my William Wheeler and Lucy Palmer. Some of Abigail's grandchildren were born in Windsor Co., VT, so there is a connection there, somehow. I have another Wheeler line that ties in with this one, which is another brick wall, and another story altogether. Is anyone on the list researching either one of these Wheeler families? I'm not at all sure how to come to a definite conclusion as to which is which. I live in California and don't see any trips back to Vermont anytime soon. Can anyone offer any help/suggestions?
