John, Too bad about the D/R - a long form death record often names parents and gives birth info. If you cannot actually find a record that gives his parents AND his date of birth, then concentrate on finding proof of parentage. Did his father leave a will or settlement which named him? You mentioned the 1870 census - is Charles listed with his parents? And is he actually called "son"? This will help me to conclude a Mayflower Society proof of lineage to Francis Cooke. The Salt Lake City LDS Family History library has a listing of church records for the Ben Salem United Church of Christ in East Penn. Unfortunately, the baptisms end one year before my grandfather's birth. Alternatively, he may have been baptized at the Dinkey Evangelical Lutheran Church. I tried to contact both of these churches by phone today, but no one answered. I found documentation for the 26 Aug 1849 marriage of his parents, John Miller and Elisa Andreas, in the "Pastoral records of E. A. Bauer", but that does not contain baptisms, only marriages and funerals. E. A. Bauer was evidently a Lutheran minister. The family was still in East Penn during the 1860 census. The family shows up in Upper Macungie, Lehigh, PA in the 1870 census. By the 1880 census, Charles had married and started his own family. Charles' and his father's families were both in Moosic, Lackawanna, PA at that time. Charles Edwin Miller died alone in the Yukon Territories of Canada in the 1930s. I checked with the Yukon Vital Statistics office for a death certificate, but they replied that none was found (and said that was not unusual up there). If anyone can point me in the right direction, or lend a helping hand, it would be greatly appreciated. Christie Trapp asked about dates for Thankful Snow. She may be a daughter of Nathan SNOW of Eastham, MA, born 1732 according to Mayflower Families (MF) 6:216 which was told to me by Susan Roser. Nathan Snow removed to Barrington, Nova Scotia. Any information welcome. Cynthia
I have 4 Thankful Snows in my database, none of them married to a William Laskey. In fact, none of them are married. So if you could help with her date of birth, I might be able to hone in on the right one that might have gone to Nova Scotia to marry William. Christie Trapp
Cynthia, According to Mayflower Families (MF) 6:216, a Nathan6 Snow (Benjamin5-4, Joseph3, Constance2 Hopkins, Stephen1) born 1732 at Eastham, MA, married Mary Horn/Polle and removed to Barrington NS. A note on this page states that given Nathan's residency at Barrington, "attention is called to three Snow women of that generation in that community" - Thankful Snow who m. William Laskey; Rachel Snow, sister of Thankful who m. Joseph Swain and a Jerusha Snow (another possible sister) who m. John Swain, brother of Joseph. It would appear from this, that these women have not been identified (at least by the society's researchers). With reference to Southwark being on the "wrong side of the river [tracks]", I would point out that John Harvard (benefactor of the venerable institution in Cambridge, MA) was born in Southwark. I don't disagree that Southwark wasn't the best section of town, but just wanted to make this observation. There is a memorial to J.H. in a church in Southwark. You no doubt already know that he was a Puritan minister who immigrated to America and died childless, leaving a large portion of his estate and his library to the new college in Cambridge which was named in his honor. David, I cannot get to your site: http://www.feliixplace.com/genealogylists/firstships.html. Thanks, Linda Thanks for sharing that site. As you know the Pilgrim migration consisted of more than just the Mayflower. There was also the ships Fortune, as you mentioned, the Anne, the Little James and several other early ships that brought people of that group to America. Which is why I created The First Ships Discussion List homepage at http://www.feliixplace.com/genealogylists/firstships.html. Best regards, David > Thanks for sharing that site. Some of the Pilgrims were left in England when the Mayflower sailed in 1620. The remainder, who had moved from Leyden to England sailed on the "Fortune" in 1621. with a group of tradesmen (mostly from Southwark "on the wrong side of the river") in London. The passenger list of the "Fortune" is now available at; http://AncestryUK.com/FortunePassengerList.htm For more information, contact; AncestryUK Family Heritage International The "Original" Washington, ENGLAND, NE38 OQB E. Hi All, I am looking for Larry Noble, who I am told was on this list. I have emailed him but the email bounced. We share a common line and I was hoping to hear from him. Larry, if you are out there, please give me a holler! Linda (Warrick) Chesson [email protected] or [email protected]
I wish to extend many thanks to those of you who were so helpful to me in answering my concerns regarding the Bowen lines. I am most grateful to all of you and appreciate that time and efforts that you took on my behalf. I feel that because of you I have a better grasp of this line. With kind regards, Susan
Susan, you don't say where these lines connect to you. You need to start with yourself and go back, documenting each person as you go. This is why I am stuck on my ggg-grandfather William Wheeler. Sometimes, as it is in my case, the documents you acquire leave more questions unanswered. I had no idea there was a Mayflower connection until I found the "other" William Wheeler. Wheelers are as "thick as fleas" in New England. Joan Norstedt On Sep 29, 2006, at 12:11 PM, Dorris wrote: Hello I'm new to the list but find it very interesting. Dorris, Doesn't look like there's going to be anything on this Wheeler line as Wheelers per se. Great Migration people given Milford Curch Record of 1640. Two of Peregrine White's daughters marry into the Wheelers of Concord there about the 1660s. You are going to need to work on the Holbrook, Gillette, Bartlett, Wooster, Lobdell ancestral lines. Couldn't quite tell what was your direct ancestral line, though. So focus on your collateral lines from about 1820 back, which I'm guessing is generation 5-9, laying out the wives and their parents and their parents & then consulting the Silver books, the Mayflower Five Generation Project, etc. Mine goes Gen. 3 Emily Paine Gen. 4 Charles B. Dorris, have you checked out the Lobdell and Collins lines? I have the Lobdells, and while they are not directly connected to the Mayflower one of my William Bradford lines goes through the Nicholas Lobdell line through marriage to Anna Lobdell, and my other William Bradford line goes through the Nathaniel Collins lines. Have you looked at those lines? Joyce Moore Robert Gerrity <[email protected]> wrote: Dorris, Doesn't look like there's going to be anything on this Wheeler line as Wheelers per se.
