Hi: My John Maxwell married to Mary unknown was born in NC in 1796 (date from gravestone). He is buried in the Maxwell cemetery in Henry Co TN near the Graves Co KY line only a few miles from the Hays cemetery in Cottege Grove. Also buried there are Mary Maxwell (1804-1876) and Marion Maxwell (1837 - 1861). He appears in Henry Co TN census in 1840 and 1850. 1850 lists him as a 54 year old farmer born in NC with assets of $1000. Wife Mary, age 44, also born NC. Children Marion, age 13, John age 10, Maston (written Martin) age 7, Paralee age 4 all born TN. Also listed (last) is Margaret Maxwell age 18 bn TN. No relationship is given, but it seems like visiting relatives are usually listed after the children, so I wonder if she could be a neice. John is also the father of my Mary Jane Maxwell who was married to James C. Hays by 1850. 1840 lists him as age 40 to 50 with one male under 5, one female 5-10 (assumed to be Mary Jane) and female 30 - 40 assumed to be wife Mary. Could this be my breakthrough on him? Does anyone know what happened to the John Maxwell listed below? This family has been a brick wall for awhile. It would be great to connect John to a family. Thanks!
