re: privacy issues: We thought of the privacy issue, even though the very tiny sample of DNA assayed would not allow anyone to ID a specific person even if they wanted to. Therefore we devised have a way to completely protect your privacy. 1. You are assigned a donor number different than the one used by the company. 2. We posted only the 4 oldest Maxwell generations, not the submitters name. 3. When a person finds a match with his sample, he contacts one of the study administrators. We then send an email to the original donor, informing him of the email address of the person who desires to contact him. If the original donor decides not to contact the person it is up to him. But remember the whole idea is to share information, theories and ideas so we can help each other advance our lines. Again I hope people realize, this study is just another tool for those of us who are stuck, and have exhausted all the standard avenues of genealogical proofs (ie paper trails). Because so many of our ancestors did not stay in the same place long, many families seperated when they migrated to other colonies/states after immigration and many times lost contact with their original family.
