Jesse & George were brothers. The area where their land grants were became Hawkins County in 1786. Jesse and George also had land grants in Davidson Co TN. I visited was passing through Nashville this summer and drove around the land once owned by Jesse. George remained in Hawkins county, but Jesse and family left in 1803. I do not believe the other Maxwells were related to Jesse & George. There was a 3rd brother involved in the early TN exploration. David was killed by Indians at Caney Fork, where ever that may be. Jesse claimed land in Davidson County for his brother's heirs. William & Moses sold this land to John Overton Sr. He built Traveler's Rest on the land. It's now a historical site. I got there too late in the day to take the tour. Jesse's granddaughter, Harriet Virginia Maxwell marred John Overton Jr. He built the Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville and named it after his wife's family. This is the same hotel that gave the coffee it's name. Gene Phillips At 10:04 PM 8/1/02 -0400, you wrote: >Here are some early Maxwells who received land grants from NC to Tn.
