    3. Many thanks for your gracious offer. My grandfather, James MAXWELL, born ca 1852, is listed in the 1900 census in McIntosh, Washington Co., Al. with his family: Bertha V. KELLY Maxwell Son, James Albert MAXWELL, b 10 July 1892, d. 5 June 1922 Twins, Ola and Ila, b. 6 Jan 1897 James MAXWELL died, date unknown but probably prior to 1910, in either a hunting or a train accident. (He was a clerk/accountant with a railroad, name unknown.) His widow, Bertha, remarried to Jesse B. WALLACE and moved to Perry Co., Ms. with the twin girls. (I have no record of the son's movements, but he married (Ruth, maiden name unknown), had a son James (Jr.?) but I cannot find them in census records. I have been unable to find a James MAXWELL in Washington Co. census records, and am not familiar with the surrounding counties. There's an intriguing clue with a James MAXWELL listed in the 1880 census at Mount Vernon, Mobile, Al., age 26 (which would place his birthdate about 1854). The census lists: Occ: Musician Co. G. U.S.A. Fa: NJ Mo: NJ. (This could mean he was in the army stationed around Mobile and met my grandmother Bertha living in nearby Washington Co. but this may be too much of a stretch.) Sandy Gifford has given me a two and a half page list of James MAXWELLs born 1847 thru 1857 and I haven't had a chance to narrow down any of them but plan to do so. Again, many thanks for your offer.
