    1. [MAXWELL-L] possible relationships
    2. Don Maxwell
    3. Larry, You are right on...DNA certainly disavowes those who you "think they probably know the father of X"...when the DNA is a mismatch they are not related. Alternatively, we are trying to match previously "unknown to be related families", as your example depicts. With a 25/25 match there is a 50% chance the 2 donors have a MCRA (most common recent ancestor) by 7-8 generations (this is about the time frame, about 200 yrs ago for which I am searching for "close family" to my Thomas Maxwell 1738-1785). It doesnt prove exact relationships....not yet but prob will in 2 years or so as more loci are identified and become avaiable to test for? This is why people should sponsor upgrades within their families from current donors by ordering the upgrade from the 12 marker tests to the 25 marker tests...or in your case to supply another sample from your Rev Thomas line to verify your clan's DNA profile (to avoid non-paternity issues [2-5% per generation], adoption, change of surnames etc). We will be posting all the matches as they come in. Right now we have 3 matches on 12/12 ("screening") loci test: My line Thomas 1738-1785 m. Ann Blackmar and William m. Eliz McCutheon of Ky and William b. 1767 (the famous Ohio Printer). We are anxiously awaiting the results of the 25 ("refined or high resolution")loci test. If they match 25/25 there is a 99.9 % chance they share a common Maxwell ancestor and 50% of a MCRA at 7.5 generations from the donors. Hope this helps!
