That is my brick wall. The information I have states that the family emigrated from Scotland and settled in Trenton, New Jersey. The obituary of a descendant of a common ancestor states that the family settled in Monmouth County, New Jersey, prior to the Revolutionary War. The early history of Franklin Township, Warren County, Ohio is peppered with the names Barkalow, Maxwell, McCashen, Campbell, Vandeveer, Dubois, Lane, Schenck, Denise, Conover and Small. Nearly all of these people came from New Jersey and were members of the New Jersey Presbyterian Church. They settled in Franklin Township and southern Montgomery County. In the latter part of the nineteenth century the area was known as the Jersey Settlement. Local biographies frequently mention Monmouth and Middlesex Counties, New Jersey. I am almost certain that my Maxwell family was part of this group. My closest Maxwell ancestor is my maternal grandmother, Fannie Sweet Maxwell. She was the daughter of George McCann Maxwell. He was born in Montgomery County, Ohio in 1814. Your Susannah Maxwell, could be a sister or niece of his father, Thomas Maxwell. Thomas was born in Trenton, Hunterdon County, New Jersey in 1767.
