My Maxwell ancestor was Susannah Maxwell b 4 Feb 1787 either in NJ or PA. She married John Elliott in Franklin co PA she had son Maxwell Elliott b 15 Jan 1821 in Welsh Run Franklin co PA. I utilize e-mail to the fullest extent, asking as many questions of others as they ask of me. I consider all of these are additional tools for me. I have not discontinued my old methods. I take that back. Today I only look at census records on microfilm as a last resort. The quality of the images available online and the ability to zoom in on them have given my eyes great relief! I am not ashamed. Additionally, I still follow the Golden Rule of Genealogy => Verify! Verify! Verify! I have corresponded and collaborated actively with Don Maxwell for at least five years. I assure you he is not in this (Genealogy or DNA Research) for the money. Don is a dedicated genealogy fanatic in the truest sense of the word. He and I are both at a brick wall on our Maxwell lines. Our common migration patterns cause us to suspect we are of the same line. Unfortunately, I am not a direct male descendant. Regardless, someday we will know if our suspicions are correct. Earl, I do not have any solid information to support a connection in New Jersey. That is my brick wall. The information I have states that the family emigrated from Scotland and settled in Trenton, New Jersey. The obituary of a descendant of a common ancestor states that the family settled in Monmouth County, New Jersey, prior to the Revolutionary War. The early history of Franklin Township, Warren County, Ohio is peppered with the names Barkalow, Maxwell, McCashen, Campbell, Vandeveer, Dubois, Lane, Schenck, Denise, Conover and Small. Nearly all of these people came from New Jersey and were members of the New Jersey Presbyterian Church. They settled in Franklin Township and southern Montgomery County. In the latter part of the nineteenth century the area was known as the Jersey Settlement. Local biographies frequently mention Monmouth and Middlesex Counties, New Jersey. I am almost certain that my Maxwell family was part of this group. My closest Maxwell ancestor is my maternal grandmother, Fannie Sweet Maxwell. She was the daughter of George McCann Maxwell. He was born in Montgomery County, Ohio in 1814. Your Susannah Maxwell, could be a sister or niece of his father, Thomas Maxwell. Thomas was born in Trenton, Hunterdon County, New Jersey in 1767.
