    3. Josette and Don, I just remembered a clue, my Aunt has her Grandsons (Alexander) bible and in it he says he thinks that John and his brothers were hugenots. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Maxwell" <dmaxwelljr@hotmail.com> To: <MAXWELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 08, 2002 7:38 AM Subject: [MAXWELL-L] Maxwell & Blackburn/Blackmar Josette and Jack, I wonder if my Thomas Maxwell 1738-1785 married ANN BLACKMAR (might be a BLACKBURN?).....she supposedly died in 1836 per DAR records...I cant find her in PA...maybe she was in Butler Co., Ohio? I think there was an elder Blackburn in Chester Co., Pa living mear my Maxwells..... Don Jack we spoke about this same possibility a few years ago? Thu, 17 Aug 2000 13:31:05 -0600 Still looking for a brickwall, Nancy Maxwell married John Blackburn, John was in the Revolution so he wasn't a Quaker or left the Church, he died soon after the war, Nancy moved with her son William and his wife Elizabeth McClanahan to Ky, then later to Ohio where she died around 1820. This is some information I had overlooked from Egles Notes and Queries, in Lancaster County, Pa. Hugh Black was one of the earliest settlers of Derry Township, from Ulster, Ireland. He died in 1759. Wife was Margaret, children, David, Jean, Agnes, Hugh, Thomas and Mary who married ? Maxwell and had issue Nancy. Does anyone know who this Maxwell was who married Mary Black? The timeline is right for my Nancy. Regards; Jack (in New Mexico) >From: "Josette L. 3. Jack A clue. There was a Hugh Black in Derry Twp Lancaster (now Dauphin) Ct. PA first record of his presence 1724. He died 1759. Among children listed in will, a Mary. Egles Notes and Querries says that this Mary married a ? Maxwell and they had a daughter Nancy Maxwell. I've no clue about what the maxwell's first name might have been. It is, however, the right timeframe. 3. As you know, there is a will in Adams Ct. PA (it was called York before 1800) for John Blackburn Jun 25, 1786 probated /Oct 17, 1785 written in Tyrone Twp Adams Ct. PA. In it he identifies his wife Agness and children James (Oldest), Alexander, William, John Maxwell (youngest) Mary m. William McGrew, Hannah, and Sarah (youngest). The will of John MGrew probated Dec 6, 1775 Huntington Twp Adams Ct. PA refers to his wife Elizabeth, sons Archibald and WIlliam, Daughter Catherine m. William Boyd and then, amongst the list of Grandchildren: "James plus Robert plus John (Maxwell)" - which could be interpreted to mean the children of his son William McGrew though William's name isn't in parens. Or, he could have had a daughter who died who had married a Maxwell. THe Blackburn people seem to believe there were two different Blackburn families who both came from Armagh Ireland about the same time and both settled Adams Ct. PA, one Quaker and one Presbyterian. It is believed by the Blackburn researchers that John Blackburn who married Nancy/Agness Maxwell was the son of Alexander Blackburn who supposedly died in Lancaster 1749, Derry Twp. and was Presbyterian. What is interesting is the reference to some Blackburns in Chester Ct. New London Twp same time as Walter Carson ((father of Agness (Carson) Maxwell)) circa 1730s. This John Blackburn Quaker settles in Menallan as does Walter Carson. Naming a son "John Maxwell Blackburn" suggests that John Maxwell was the father of Agness Maxwell. There is a John Maxwell in Chester Ct. 1712 d. 1715 who had a son John. Interesting also is that Quaker records identify members of the Blackburn Quakers from Amagh arriving in the US 1728 - probable same time as Walter Carson who first appears on Tax List New London (Londongrove) 1729. Might also mention that it appears to me probable that the Carsons/Henry Maxwell arrived on a ship docking at New Castle Deleware. Josette.
