Very definitely there is a mixup at times between Maxwell and Maxfield - I've found this in Pennsylvania records and also NARA records. There is also, however, a surname of Maxfield going well back before the war. What you have to do is establish whether there are any Maxfields in the area to see if there is a mixup or in fact Maxfields.
